April: Castello del Sole, Ascona

Plenty of space for relaxation and a private beach

Set on a 140-hectare estate surrounded by nature , the five-star Castello del Sole resort is an idyllic snapshot of southern Switzerland. An experienced team looks after the guests, who appreciate the resort for its vastness and tranquillity. The place once served as a refuge for persecuted Protestants. Today, the Castello del Sole is still a retreat far away from everyday life and worries. The 41 junior suites and suites as well as the 38 double and single rooms, spread over three parts of the building, exude quiet luxury and plenty of privacy. Unique: the fields of the vineyard with agricultural specialties, the Terreni alla Maggia, surround the resort. Rice, corn, pasta and of course the excellent wine comes from the neighborhood.

The taste of the garden: Guests can choose between three restaurants and several bars. The culinary skills of the talented chef Mattias Roock can be impressively experienced in the Locanda Barbarossa gourmet restaurant. Many of the ingredients for the dishes are grown in the immediate vicinity and authentically reflect the taste of the surrounding area;
In addition to numerous types of fruit and vegetables, the Castello del Sole team grows over 25 different varieties of tomatoes in the Castello del Sole garden. The kitchen can help itself to the tastiest fennel, eggplants, zucchinis and much more. Unusual things also grow, such as Asian radish. Amazingly, the mild climate ensures that exotic Sichuan, Sansho and mountain pepper plants thrive. Mattias Roock combines these ingredients masterfully in his menu for the Locanda Barbarossa. The restaurant has been awarded a Michelin star.

The Castello Spa and Beauty offers guests a 2,500 square meter wellness facility in a class of its own: indoor and outdoor swimming pool, whirlpool, exercise pool, hydro pool, various saunas, Kneipp path, fitness and gymnastics room and a spa suite;
The inviting beach at our resort is the only one at a hotel on Lake Maggiore. Old trees that span the century present themselves as well as flowers in a variety of colors. We offer a variety of sunbathing options and a jetty that leads into the lake. For a few carefree hours or a whole day at the lake, there is hardly a more "dolce far niente" in Switzerland. Guests can explore the lake by canoe, paddle, pedal boat or swimming. For sporting activities, the hotel also offers tennis courts, a tennis hall and bikes. The adjacent golf course at the Patriziale di Ascona golf club is one of the most renowned in the world. For an exclusive lake experience, the hotel has its own Frauscher boat for up to twelve people, which can be hired, complete with captain, for excursions on Lake Maggiore.
