Hotel Schweizerhof Lucerne
From Wagner to Deep Purple: the music elite's favorite hotel inspires with its art-historical ambience and hot rhythms. Groovy!
The leitmotif
Celebrities from the music scene meet at the Schweizerhof Lucerne to perform at the hotel during the summer months. The venerable halls, rooms and suites proudly boast a number of legends who have picked up the guitar or sat down at the piano here. Richard Wagner completed the third act of Tristan and Isolde here in 1859 and blues legend B.B. King spontaneously picked up the guitar in the magnificent Zeugheersaal in 2002 to enchant the guests. The hotel is also known beyond the country's borders as a festival hotel. And with good reason: events such as the Blue Balls Festival, the Lucerne Blues Festival, Zaubersee - Russian Music Lucerne and the World Band Festival are held here. The most recent addition is The Retro Festival - stars from the 70s and 80s are guests in Lucerne over a weekend each spring.
101 stories
As part of the hotel's constant positioning as a festival hotel, this flair can also be experienced first-hand in each of the 101 award-winning rooms - because the rooms, which are steeped in history, tell anecdotes that personalities such as writers, musicians and actors have experienced at the Hotel Schweizerhof Luzern: For example, you can find out how hotel guests in 1859 protected themselves against the noise of their composing room neighbor Richard Wagner. Or how (not yet 'Sir' at the time) Winston Churchill, aged 19, raved about the Schweizerhof's electric light in 1893. Or how the American regular guests Converse were kidnapped on their journey home in 1970 and released again. Equipped with elements of the 101 legends, such as various quotes, objects or writings by the person in question, each of the retreats has its own unmistakable signature.
Perfect ending
Want to sip a cocktail with Deep Purple, enjoy a glass of wine with Zucchero or drink champagne with Jimmy Cliff? Then be sure to visit the friendly Schweizerhof Bar - the "official bar" of various festivals. Trendy people from all over the city meet here: the elegant lounge-style design, atmospheric lighting and modern furniture set new accents. Regular events and daily piano music also delight numerous passers-by. Twice a month, the Schweizerhof Bar is also transformed into a dance club: on Saturdays, DJ Kuk plays Caribbean salsa music, while on Sundays, hot tango rhythms are the order of the day for beginners and professionals alike. Here, where the music elite artfully signed the tables, you can still feel the spirit of the groove. In the warmer months, you can enjoy selected delicacies under palm and olive trees on the picturesque sun terrace. You always have a view of Lake Lucerne and strolling passers-by on the Lucerne Riviera - dolce vita at its best.
