Appenzeller Huus
"A Lifestyle Wellness Community" - this is the motto of the Appenzeller Huus. In the heart of the Appenzellerland power region, at an altitude of 900 meters, this hotel is a unique retreat. At its heart is the Huus Bären, a down-to-earth hotel with a history. Huus Löwen, another boutique hotel of a higher standard, opened in June 2023.
In Huus Bären and Huus Löwen, the Appenzeller Huus combines living tradition, modern experiences and culinary diversity. From 2025, the Appenzeller Huus Group will complete the 5-star hotel, Huus Quell, a hideaway for relaxation on a whole new level.

With a history stretching back over 400 years, Huus Bären represents the traditional values of the region. It radiates coziness and authenticity. The lovingly furnished rooms and the rustic ambience allow guests to experience Appenzell in its most original form. The cuisine at Huus Bären focuses on Appenzell specialties and uses high-quality, regional ingredients to offer an authentic taste experience.
In a total of 18 charming rooms and suites, guests spend the night in heavenly comfort: e.g. in box-spring beds with an authentic hay box at the head end. Wood is the dominant design element throughout the hotel, a sign of the connection with nature. The residences with two separate bedrooms are ideal for families, as is the children's playground behind the house
Opened in June 2023, Huus Löwen complements Huus Bären with its elegant boutique style. With 23 rooms and a romantic rooftop suite as well as a stylish interior, Huus Löwen appeals to guests who appreciate comfort and modern design. The Löwensaal functions as an event center and offers space for private and business occasions as well as cultural events such as concerts, readings and discussions. This makes the house a lively meeting place for culture and community in the Appenzell region.
When you enter the "Löwen", it smells of wood. Around 1000 spruce trees from the region exude their invigorating aroma. Some of it is so-called moon wood, which was harvested during a favorable moon phase and is said to be more weather-resistant and less sensitive. Even the elevator shaft is made of wood and provides barrier-free access to all floors of both parts of the building.
Since October 2025, Huus Quell has opened its doors as a five-star hotel for guests who want to experience relaxation and well-being on a new level. The exclusive hotel expands the renowned Appenzeller Huus and complements the existing Bären and Löwen hotels. At Huus Quell, guests enjoy much more than just a time-out - a stay could be the start of a healthy and mindful lifestyle.
The wellness area covers more than 2,200 square meters and is one of the most modern spas in Switzerland. A spectacular rooftop pool, a wide range of indoor and outdoor wellness offers and innovative treatments such as cryotherapy, biohacking and infrared therapy characterize the offer. This progressive concept played a key role in the Huus Quell being accepted into the exclusive community of "The Leading Hotels of the World" - an international seal of quality for excellence and luxury - even before it opened. With Carsten Alexander Kypke as Executive Chef at the Appenzeller Huus, an experienced professional in the luxury hotel industry is responsible for the culinary delights. He has already been responsible for the kitchen in renowned hotels such as The Chedi Andermatt and is passionate about authentic cuisine. Guests can expect a combination of classic and modern Appenzell dishes in the Löwenstobe. The Bärenstube offers gourmet cuisine, and in the Huus Quell restaurant, Kypke will present an innovative selection of small dishes to share. The Appenzeller Huus also has an impressive wine cellar, a tavern, a cigar lounge, a summer terrace and, from winter 2025, the hotel's own chalet.
