7132 Hotel
3rd place: World-famous, deeply relaxing, highly mineral: with iconic architecture, the thermal spa by Peter Zumthor and starred gastronomy at the highest level, the 7132 stands for experiences of a sensual kind.
Masterpiece made from Vals quartzite - 7132 Therme
The Graubünden architect Peter Zumthor became known in architectural circles and far beyond with his design for the redesign of the thermal baths. In 1996, a monolithic building made of raw concrete with 60,000 Vals quartzite blocks was created as a tribute to the region. The work aroused such great enthusiasm that it has been a listed building since 1998. It is divided into six baths ranging from an ice bath at 14 degrees to a fire bath at 42 degrees. The outdoor bath with water up to 36 degrees provides wow moments and invites you to float under the open sky. Twelve sweating stones in the steam bath and many relaxation options round off the wellness offer. The ESPA Spa in turn impresses with seven treatment rooms, beauty treatments and hot stone treatments. Anyone who thinks this architectural marvel is the end of the line at the 7132 is very much mistaken, as the rooms and suites are no less sensational.
Iconic luxury retreat - 7132 Hotel
Light colors and fine materials dominate the ambience, every room offers a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. If you want to be even more amazed, book into the top floor of the hotel and stay in one of three penthouse suites. Each of them has 90 square meters and was designed by Japanese star architect Kengo Kuma. The design is stunning and the clever use of materials virtually draws nature inside through the floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows. Another very nice detail in the hotel: the spacious library invites you to browse by the open fire.
Designwelt - 7132 House of Architects
Even though all the rooms are the same size, each of them is completely individual. The architects Peter Zumthor, Kengo Kuma and Tadao Ando have created an architecturally impressive jewel that attracts architecture enthusiasts from all over the world. While the design by Japanese architect and Pritzker Prize winner Tadao Ando is an impressive homage to the subtle aesthetics of Japanese teahouses, compatriot Kengo Kuma has created a cozy cocoon inspired by the finesse of Japanese carpentry and literally embraces guests with its modern oak panels from Switzerland. The US American and Pritzker Prize winner Thom Mayne, on the other hand, breaks the mold: His rooms are three-dimensionally lined with local wood or Vals quartzite - and the shower stands free in the room as an organically shaped sculpture. Peter Zumthor's Refugium, also a Pritzker Prize winner, uses a plaster technique from the Italian Renaissance - Stucco Lustro - to create unique, refreshingly colorful rooms with hand-painted Habotai silk curtains.
