Mandarin Oriental, Munich

The Mandarin Oriental Munich is one of Munich's small and intimate luxury hotels. Nevertheless, it has earned a top position in the hotel ranking of the Bavarian capital.

The wedge-shaped Mandarin Oriental towers over the Bräuhausstraße / Neuturmstraße intersection like a large piece of cream cake with a dollop of cream. Although its gleaming white façade and large flags certainly make it stand out, it is easy to overlook. This is partly due to the neighboring Hofbräuhaus, which attracts crowds of tourists, and partly due to the deliberate understatement that the Hong Kong-based hotel chain has adopted. Mandarin Oriental is not about making a loud entrance, instead opting for quiet luxury. This is also the case in the Munich hotel, which welcomes guests with a subtle golden sheen on the walls and carpeting.

Pure elegance

"Biedermeier meets Asia" is the motto so far. A corner suite impresses with its circular bedroom in the tower. Even higher up, the view from the terrace of the Presidential Suite extends over the rooftops of the city. And from the roof with its outdoor pool and China Moon Terrace, you can even see the Alps on a clear day. Newly designed rooms and suites will be unveiled in fall 2020. "We are delighted to present our new and beautifully designed rooms and suites at Mandarin Oriental, Munich. The new design combines tradition and modernity, creating an elegant ambience with contemporary functionality. The new art concept, which can be admired throughout the hotel, recognizes Munich's geographical location as the gateway to the Alps. We are particularly proud to be one of the first hotels in Germany to replace single-use plastic in the guest rooms and bathrooms with sustainable alternatives", said Dominik G. Reiner, General Manager.

Culinary delights are at the starting line

Culinary delights are provided by the hotel restaurant Matsuhisa Munich, which is part of the empire of Los Angeles-based Nobuyuki Matsuhisa, better known as "Nobu". The globally acclaimed celebrity chef is known for his Japanese-Peruvian cuisine, which includes classic sushi and sashimi as well as creative fish tacos and a legendary spinach salad with dried miso paste. The master's signature dishes also include pork neck with spicy aji panca salsa, which is almost a little Bavarian in Munich. Travelers and locals alike meet for afternoon tea in The Lounge and enjoy creative and classic cocktails in the elegant Ory cocktail bar on the first floor. In the summer months, everyone is drawn to The Terrace. A lounge designed in blue and turquoise with oriental statues and large potted plants lures you in for relaxing hours with a first-class view.
