Located on the Binnenalster, the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten is one of Hamburg’s landmarks—and one of the most historic hotels in northern Germany.
How does one run a hotel perfectly? Friedrich Haerlin emphasized common sense and warm hospitality above all else: “It’s just like at home. When we invite guests over, everything is spotless, the table is set, the food is delicious and plentiful, and we’ve dressed neatly and are looking forward to welcoming our guests. We do nothing different at the hotel—except that everything is a bit bigger,” said the founder of the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten, established in 1897. To this day, he remains ever-present in the luxurious hotel on the Binnenalster, in old photographs as well as in the minds of the staff. In addition, one of the hotel’s restaurants is named after him—the Restaurant Haerlin.
The Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten offers a culinary portfolio unique in Germany. In the lounge, you can enjoy a fantastic British Afternoon Tea or the classic club sandwich. In the elegant ambiance of the 3-Michelin-star gourmet restaurant Haerlin, Christoph Rüffer serves the finest dishes, composed of ingredients of the highest quality. The restaurant is atmospherically lit by a modern designer chandelier consisting of 1,000 strands of pearls and 20,000 sparkling crystals. For sophisticated Hanseatic creations with Art Deco flair, however, there is the GRILL, while the trendy NIKKEI NINE focuses on Japanese-Peruvian fusion cuisine. At Cafe Condi, you can enjoy a legendary breakfast, and between April and October, guests are also welcome on the terrace, DECK 4—right on the Binnenalster, with a spectacular panoramic view of Jungfernstieg and Ballindamm. The perfect way to end the day is a visit to the Jahreszeiten Bar, the city’s smallest bar. In the former office of Friedrich Haerlin, bar manager Enrico Wilhelm welcomes guests with classic drinks, creative cocktail creations, and aromatic cigars, which may also be enjoyed on-site.
Despite its rich history and tradition, the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten—which celebrated its 125th anniversary in 2022—presents itself as a strikingly contemporary grand hotel. Over the past ten years, the property has undergone a major renovation. All 156 rooms and suites shine with a fresh new look. Exceptional materials are effectively showcased in six different color schemes—subtle accents in gold, kiwi, dove blue, fireplace red, blackberry, and lilac invite guests to linger. The interior design is fresh and unconventional, yet remains classically and timelessly elegant. The Vier Jahreszeiten SPA and various restaurants have also been completely redesigned, and additional event venues behind the scenes of the hotel provide a unique setting for extraordinary events—and that is by no means all. Starting in spring 2021, the team led by General Manager Ingo C. Peters will welcome guests in a completely renovated lobby. A unique blend of cream, gold, and aqua tones creates an exclusive ambiance; the furnishings were largely custom-made for the hotel by top-tier partners such as the Bielefeld Workshops, Jan Kath, and Badari. In addition, a unique and exclusive experience for wine lovers has been created in the venerable wine cellar.
Vier Jahreszeiten SPA & Fitness offers wonderful moments of well-being across 1,000 square meters. With over 100 different treatments, including massages, cosmetic and beauty treatments, personal training, and physical therapy, an impressive range of Eastern and Western spa philosophies is offered. At the Vier Jahreszeiten SPA, the latest technologies from Landsberg First Class Aesthetic, as well as products by Augustinus Bader, are used to ensure guests receive the highest quality here as well.
A highlight is the spacious rooftop terrace adjacent to the spa, featuring white lounges and understated, elegant décor, beautiful beach chairs, and a champagne bar.
