A hotel straight out of a fairy tale: At Hotel DIE SONNE FRANKENBERG, in the home of the Brothers Grimm, “The Wishing Table” is brought to life in the most exquisite way.
Frankenberg an der Eder has partially preserved its medieval townscape to this day. Here, it’s easy to recall the Brothers Grimm’s Children’s and Household Tales, for the picture-perfect backdrop of half-timbered houses, towers, and colorful market bustle seems to have stopped time. Here, visitors find themselves right in the midst of the Grimm brothers’ stories. The world-famous fairy tales have their origins in the forest; anyone walking there might easily stumble upon the wicked witch’s gingerbread house.
Since 1833, the Hotel DIE SONNE FRANKENBERG has been welcoming travelers, first as a brewery, then as a city wine house, and finally as a hotel with a holistic focus and a 1,000-square-meter boutique spa. The historic buildings house 63 sunny, Mediterranean-style rooms and suites, some featuring original exposed beams. The largest suite is fully furnished with a kitchen and dining room. Romantics will feel right at home in the Spa Suite: half-timbered bay windows and a fireplace make nostalgic hearts beat faster, while the bathing ritual with music and candles envelops guests in a sense of well-being. In addition, saunas, saltwater pools, a steam bath, an ice fountain, a tepidarium, and relaxation areas offer the opportunity for deep relaxation.
The hotel’s culinary diversity is showcased in two restaurants. The gourmet restaurant Philipp Soldan has held a Michelin star for 10 consecutive years and has been awarded 17 points by Gault Millau and 3 toques. Surprisingly clean lines and glass facades provide the setting for traditional cuisine, which is given a modern twist by Chef Erik Arnecke. Sophisticated, regional cuisine is served in the SonneStuben. Here, too, the interior design takes a discreet back seat, offering only a glimpse into its rich past through select pieces.
