Grand Hotel Heiligendamm

Magnificent villas and palaces make up the Grand Hotel Heiligendamm ensemble, which enjoys a legendary reputation as "the white town by the sea". Surrounded by beech forests and water, you live in a world of its own here, where the "good old days" are appreciated just as much as the achievements of the modern luxury hotel industry.

Doberan, the "Holy Dam" in the summer of 1793: on the advice of his personal physician, Frederick Francis I dipped the tips of his princely feet in the sea for the first time - setting a trend that quickly spread throughout high society. In order to meet the demand, a bathhouse was soon built on the site, followed by a spa, then a grand hotel and finally the imposing ensemble of villas and cottages that still exists today. A piece of wilderness on the Baltic Sea beach became a "white town by the sea" that attracted Prussian princes and Russian tsars alike. But then came the wars and, after them, socialism. Heiligendamm fell into a deep slumber until the end of the 20th century. Today, however, it has long since returned to calm waters. In spring 2024, after a three-month renovation phase, the famous hotel will present itself with all kinds of new features.

Classically perfect

The Grand Hotel Heiligendamm on the Mecklenburg Baltic coast is located in the heart of Germany's first seaside resort and, with its historic ensemble of buildings, has once again been one of the top addresses in the north since 2003. The hotel has five buildings with a total of 199 rooms and suites: Haus Grand Hotel, Burg Hohenzollern, Haus Mecklenburg, Orangerie and Severin Palais, whose façades are sometimes characterized by classicism and sometimes influenced by romanticism. What they have in common is the simple, classical basic design. What sets them apart are the small details, which owe their respective stylistic periods a touch of history and a high degree of harmony. One of the highlights is the "White Tower Suite", high up in Haus Mecklenburg, from whose bedroom the sweeping view of the sometimes shimmering turquoise, sometimes deep blue Baltic Sea is enchanting. An ambience that almost makes you long for a few bad weather days so that you can spend them in the four-poster bed or in the lounge.

Infinite leisure options

Speaking of bad weather days: Heiligendamm is not only worth a visit in high summer. The atmosphere is particularly magical in the calm, usually quite weather-resistant autumn - especially when the morning mist lies heavy as limestone rock over the water or the bright colors of the beech forests glow in the evening light. Spring and fall are also the perfect seasons to get into the swing of things on the course at the nearby Ostsee Golf Resort Wittenbeck or to book a horseback ride at the Börgerende riding camp, which you can enjoy from October to March with a fresh Baltic Sea breeze on the beach. Another relaxing experience is a ride on the Molli-Bäderbahn, a steam train that has been taking guests to Bad Doberan, 20 minutes away, since 1886 and is still the link between the cathedral town and the seaside resort today. A short journey through time in a historic carriage, passing sights such as the oldest racecourse in continental Europe, one of the most beautiful avenues of lime trees in Germany and the stately villas of the spa town.

Well-being

Those arriving in winter can enjoy the unique wellness offer in Heiligendamm, which has been Mecklenburg's top address for relaxation since 1793. Impressively framed by the sea, Baltic beach and dense beech forests, the 3,000 m² Heiligendamm SPA with pool and sauna area presents itself as a pure world of well-being. One of the special features is the spacious Baltic Sea hamam, where you can enjoy the oriental cleansing ritual. We also recommend the signature treatment "Heiligendamm's Finest", a gentle full-body massage with regional healing products, and guests can now swim in the luxurious outdoor pool with sea breeze all year round.

Pamper all your senses

A treat at any time of year: Heiligendamm's culinary offerings! Following the motto "Heic Te Laetitia Invitat Post Balnea Sanum" - "Here you are welcomed with joy, you emerge healthy from the bath", almost everything in the Kurhaus has revolved around exquisite food and drink since 1817. While the elegant and freshly renovated ambience of the "Kurhaus Restaurant" primarily serves light cuisine with regional influences and a seasonal focus, the Michelin-starred "Friedrich Franz" restaurant under the management of Ronny Siewert is dedicated to haute cuisine. Siewert and his team have been Mecklenburg's No. 1 for over 10 years. Another highlight is the Baltic Sushi Bar, which was redesigned in 2024: it has been modernized and now offers a classic sushi counter, an open kitchen area and a modern design influenced by Asian elements. When the weather is nice, guests can enjoy their sushi creations on the adjacent terrace with a sea view.
