Roomers Berlin Steinplatz
In a quiet side street off Ku'damm, a team of California-based architects with roots in Berlin has created a hotel that blends a cool lifestyle, history, and fine dining with laid-back luxury: the Roomers Berlin
On January 1, 2025, the Gekko Group took over the renowned Hotel am Steinplatz, which will now welcome guests as Roomers Berlin. Vladimir Nabokov, Heinrich Böll, Günter Grass, as well as Luciano Pavarotti, Yehudi Menuhin, Alain Delon, Brigitte Bardot, and Zarah Leander: The old Hotel am Steinplatz, with its legendary “Volle Pulle” bar, has seen them all—and faithfully kept their secrets behind its richly decorated Art Nouveau façade. Only one scandal made it into the tabloid press in the 1960s: Back then, Romy Schneider had actually dared to try to go to her own room “in the company of a gentleman,” which the strict night porter, however, loudly refused to allow, and which ultimately ended in a rather undam-like scuffle. The consequences: an injured porter, an angry Schneider, a jilted lover, and a hotel whose name became just a little bit more famous.
A New Beginning
Since its opening in 1913, the building has undergone numerous renovations and served as a meeting place for artists, intellectuals, and celebrities. As part of the rebranding to Roomers Berlin, the hotel’s historic heritage will be preserved and carried forward through the Gekko Group’s luxury lifestyle concept. A special highlight will be a new restaurant in collaboration with The Duc Ngo, which will form the heart of the hotel.
