At the beginning of the 19th century, the American merchant John Fontenay came to Hamburg to set up as a shipbroker - and he fell in love with a unique property in the heart of the city, right on the banks of Lake Alster. Today, the address Fontenay 10 is home to THE FONTENAY Hamburg, a 5-star superior hotel and member of The Leading Hotels of the World.
Hamburg architect Jan Störmer drew inspiration from the surrounding area for the amorphous shape of the building. The three interlocking circles are reminiscent of the large treetops; there is no rear side - instead, THE FONTENAY Hamburg is surrounded by greenery on all sides. A green inner courtyard and the 27-metre-high atrium form the heart of the building. In the 130 rooms and suites with their semi-circular walls, floor-to-ceiling windows and a ceiling height of 2.60 meters, selected designer furniture, fine wooden floors and warm colors create a cosy atmosphere. Decorative objects by Danish industrial design brand Georg Jensen and original works of art by Peruvian painter Antonio Máro add to the harmony.
The highlight of the luxury hotel is the rooftop structure on the 6th and 7th floors. Here you will find the Lakeside, which has been awarded two Michelin stars and serves cosmopolitan cuisine with French roots, and the Fontenay Bar, where guests can enjoy exciting drinks accompanied by live music.
