The Living Room
Fancy a little trip around the world right in the heart of Berlin? Then a stay at the boutique hotel Das Stue is just the thing.
Unique
As a guest, you can buy tickets for the Berlin Zoo at the front desk and enter the zoo right away through a private entrance. Or you can simply take a seat at the bar and watch the wildebeests and ostriches in their enclosures from your stool. Or you can take an “animal-themed” art walk through the private collection of one of the hotel owners and discover leather turtles, a wooden crocodile, as well as giraffes and orangutans made of colorful wire mesh.
Extraordinary
Translated from Danish, the term “Stue,” which is pronounced roughly like “Schtuhe,” means “living room”—a fitting name for a boutique hotel whose cozy, elegant ambiance is the work of top Spanish designer Patrizia Urquiola. Guests stay in 78 rooms and suites, each of which is highly unique due to its former use as embassy quarters. Some of the junior suites feature large skylights in the roof and additional windows at ankle- to knee-height, while the elegant Bel-Etage Suite boasts an 80-square-meter rooftop terrace and ceilings up to five meters high.
The 260-square-meter Susanne Kaufmann SPA features a 14-meter pool with a sauna, two single treatment rooms, and one couples’ treatment room, all bathed in natural light.
Delicious
Those who round off the evening at the bar or in the CARTE BLANCHE restaurant may even experience a surprise or two from the animal kingdom. Looking out the window, you might just find yourself locked in a deep gaze with the imposing ostriches from the adjacent enclosures of the Berlin Zoo. On balmy summer nights, the lushly landscaped terrace comes to life, perfectly rounding out the Berlin experience.
