LA MAISON hotel & spa
1st Place: A design hotel that blends tradition and modernity—the LA MAISON hotel & spa in Saarlouis captivates with its charm and character.
High-Quality Architecture
: This historic “Grande Dame” has been modernized with a linear extension on the north side, cheerfully combining old and new across a total area of 5,000 m². The result is a blend of historicism and modern design, all slightly inspired by Louis XIV, after whom the city is named. This French influence pervades the property, welcoming guests in the kitchen and in curated designer pieces. At the opposite end of the design spectrum stands the minimalist extension, linked to the main building by an avant-garde spiral staircase. The transition from classic to contemporary is executed with a playful touch. While one façade exudes stylish grandeur, the new wing, with its aluminium shutters, gracefully recedes, leaving space for (re)interpretation. The hotel was named “Hotel of the Year 2023” by DER FEINSCHMECKER magazine.
Exceptional Cuisine:
The former courtroom, with direct access to the park terrace, impresses with its high ceilings and stylish ambiance. The LOUIS restaurant offers a sophisticated atmosphere and culinary experience under the direction of Executive Chef Sebastian Sandor. The Michelin-starred chef crafts his menus using a select few, characterful ingredients. Head Sommelier Robert Jankowski pairs dishes with wines, focusing on lesser-known—and in some cases, very traditional—wines and regions that, despite everything, can still be rediscovered in Europe. In a casual setting with a total of 22 seats, guests can choose between the LOUIS menu and its vegetarian alternative, “Gemüse deluxe.” Once again, the creative cuisine was awarded 2 Michelin stars in 2025. At PASTIS bistro, a feast for the eyes is accompanied by a culinary feast on the plates: Beneath a sky of pots—which prove to be lights within the open roof truss—guests enjoy inventively Francophile dishes in a relaxed setting. This enchanting Gesamtkunstwerk has been honoured with the Bib Gourmand in the MICHELIN Guide. The glass-enclosed winter garden transports guests into a verdant oasis and offers a natural spectacle, even when the glass panels are closed. One floor below, on the ground floor, PASTIS feinkost has taken up residence: a small shop brimming with grand temptations. Here guests discover artisanal delicacies from the hotel kitchen, meticulously crafted in the finest tradition. Wine, chutney, and confit are arranged on the shelves by Executive Chef Sebastian Sandor. In the themed suites, culinary delights are given an intimate twist. The “Suite Chocolat” and “Suite Ratatouille” are peppered with creative and colorful nods to their themes. A new addition to the bar concept is petit LOUIS, the little brother of the LOUIS restaurant. It serves 14 small creations across seven courses, which can be enjoyed in a relaxed and casual atmosphere, such as the bar or library. Sommelier Robert Jankowski selects the perfect wine pairings, and bar manager Robin Weiss mixes exciting drinks afterward. For conferences or private celebrations, the LA MAISON hotel & spa features an event space in its villa that offers a balanced blend of appeal and functionality. On the one hand, the loft-like ambiance and a mosaic-tiled wall provide mental space to think, while state-of-the-art conference technology helps maintain focus. On the park level, the PARKBLICK event room stands out as a versatile space with a capacity of up to 60 people. The space may be divided into two sections and boasts a foyer with a walk-in wine cabinet.
New Spa – Francophile Flair Across 2,000 m²
In the spring of 2025, LA MAISON hotel & spa in Saarlouis expanded its offerings to include a stylish spa spanning approximately 2,000 square meters. Inspired by the charm of Provence, this new retreat—featuring a heated outdoor pool, three saunas, a light-filled relaxation area, and thoughtfully curated wellness treatments—invites guests to enjoy a leisurely escape.
Reached via a short, meandering stroll through the grounds from the hotel’s historic villa and contemporary annex, this sanctuary—housed in a meticulously renovated building—exudes Mediterranean ease. A heated outdoor pool forms the centerpiece of the spa garden, surrounded by wooden decks, shady trees, and spacious lounging areas. Inside, guests will find a Finnish sauna, a bio sauna and a steam room with an ice fountain. Wellness zones and a relaxation room with a fireplace, together with a fully glazed façade, provide ample space for contemplative respite. Floor-to-ceiling windows open onto the garden, while a lounge area and a rooftop terrace complete the experience.
Christina Beaumont and Achim Gergen are responsible for the interior design, and their signature style is evident throughout: natural materials such as travertine and oiled oak planks, combined with fine natural lime plaster, elegant sand tones and warm bronze accents, define the clean, elegant design language.
Owner Günter Wagner remarks on the expansion: “With the new spa, we are setting another milestone for our hotel—and creating a holistic experience that combines design, indulgence, nature, and relaxation.” Photos: LA MAISON hotel & spa
