LA MAISON hotel & spa

1st place: Design hotel between tradition and modernity - the LA MAISON hotel & spa in Saarlouis impresses with its charm and character.

Formerly the Higher Administrative Court, the renovated villa with two modern extensions and its own park reflects the culture and lifestyle of Saarlouis both inside and out: contemporary, Francophile and attractively staged. The 4-star superior hotel with 50 rooms and suites, conference rooms, LOUIS restaurant, PASTIS bistro & feinkost and petit LOUIS bar concept positions itself as an individualist.

High-quality architecture

The historic grande dame has been given a modern boost with a straightforward extension to the north side, cheerfully combining old and new on a total area of 5,000 m². The result is a mix of historicism and modern design language, all slightly reminiscent of Louis XIV, who was responsible for the city's name. The French influence can be found throughout the hotel, in the kitchen as well as in selected designer pieces. On the other side of the design ladder is the minimalist extension, linked to the main building by an avant-garde spiral staircase. The transition from classic to contemporary is a playful one. Where on the one hand stylish grandeur prevails, the new building with its aluminum shutters takes a step back and leaves room for (re)interpretation. The hotel was named "Hotel of the Year 2023" by DER FEINSCHMECKER magazine.

Excellent cuisine

The former courtroom with direct access to the park terrace impresses with its high ceilings and stylish ambience. The LOUIS restaurant focuses on sophisticated charisma and culinary delights under head chef Sebastian Sandor. The Michelin-starred chef creates his menus using a few basic products with a strong character. Head sommelier Robert Jankowski serves the right wine with a focus on unknown, sometimes very traditional wines and regions that can still be rediscovered in Europe. In the casual ambience with a total of 22 seats, guests can choose between the LOUIS menu and its vegetarian version, Vegetable deluxe. The creative cuisine was once again awarded 2 Michelin stars in 2025.

In the PASTIS bistro, the feast for the eyes is complemented by the feast for the plate: creative Francophile cooking and casual dining take place under a sky full of pots that turn out to be lights in the open roof truss. This flirtatious work of art has been awarded the Bib Gourmand in the MICHELIN Guide. The glass conservatory puts guests into the greenery and offers a natural spectacle not only when the glass panels are opened. One floor below, on the first floor, PASTIS feinkost has moved in: a small store with great temptations. Here you will find delicacies from the hotel kitchen in the best manufactory style. Wine, chutney and confit are filled onto the shelves by chef Sebastian Sandor. In the themed suites, culinary delights are interpreted in a homely way. "Suite Chocolat" or "Suite Ratatouille" are peppered with design and color allusions.

A new addition to the bar concept is the petit LOUIS, the little brother of the LOUIS restaurant. It serves 14 small creations in seven courses, which can be enjoyed in a relaxed and casual atmosphere such as the bar or library. Sommelier Robert Jankowski takes care of the appropriate wine pairing and bar manager Robin Weiss mixes exciting drinks afterwards.

For conferences or private celebrations, the LA MAISON hotel & spa has an event area in its villa that offers a balanced mix of attractiveness and functionality. On the one hand, a loft feeling or a mosaic tiled wall offer mental freedom, while the focus is set by means of flawless conference technology. On the parking level, the PARKBLICK event room is an impressive all-rounder with a capacity of up to 60 people. The room can be divided into two units and has a foyer with a walk-in wine cabinet.

New spa - Francophile flair on 2,000 m²

In spring 2025, the LA MAISON hotel & spa in Saarlouis expanded its range of services with a stylish spa covering around 2,000 square meters. Inspired by the charm of Provence, the new retreat with a heated outdoor pool, three saunas, a light-flooded relaxation area and subtly curated wellness treatments invites you to slow down and take a break.

A short path through the open air, accessible from the historic villa and the hotel's modern extension, reveals a refuge with Mediterranean lightness in a lavishly gutted existing building. A heated outdoor pool forms the heart of the spa garden, surrounded by wooden decks, shady trees and spacious sunbathing areas. Inside, guests can enjoy a Finnish sauna, bio sauna and steam bath with ice fountain. Feel-good zones and a relaxation room with a fireplace and fully glazed façade also provide plenty of space for relaxing moments. The window front can be opened to the garden, while a lounge area and a roof terrace round off the overall experience.

Christina Beaumont and Achim Gergen are responsible for the interior design. The architects' signature can be felt everywhere; natural materials such as travertine and oiled oak planks, combined with fine natural lime plaster, elegant sand tones and warm bronze accents, characterize the clear, elegant design language.

Owner Günter Wagner says of the extension: "With the new spa, we are creating another milestone for our hotel - and a holistic experience that combines design, enjoyment, nature and relaxation."
