Right on the Main-Danube Canal, in a baroque neighborhood in the heart of Berching, the Engelwirt is a charming place full of history and inspiration.
For decades, two listed buildings dating back to 1686 had been lying dormant. Until Stephanie and Michael Zink decided to combine them with two other contemporary buildings to form an ensemble, creating a lively meeting place for guests and locals alike. The connecting element of the buildings is the picturesque inner courtyard with a lushly planted conservatory, furnished with modern art and sculptures. Twelve stylish apartments and three cozy double rooms - twelve of which have a fully equipped kitchen - are individually designed and lovingly furnished with beautiful details. Original stucco ceilings, historic doors, rose pointed floors as well as designer furniture classics and antiques make them rooms full of inspiration.
The regional store brings together the finest products from local craftsmen, producers and manufacturers from the Altmühltal, the Upper Palatinate and Franconia. Exquisite chocolate, fine wines, jams just like grandma used to make, cookbooks and much more make up the exquisite range. Coffee, cake, wine and a small selection of home-made treats are available in the café, in the summer months in the garden with birdsong and in the cold season in the cozy lounge. Breakfast is also available on request with all kinds of delicacies from the region.
