World premiere at Silversea

The Silva Nova is the first hybrid luxury cruise ship to make its debut

The eleventh cruise ship of the ultra-luxury travel brand Silversea Cruises is currently under construction at the German Meyer Werft shipyard. The ship, which will be christened with the melodious name Silver Nova, is the first of the Nova class and also a world premiere. The Silver Nova will be the first hybrid luxury cruise ship to sail the seven seas from 2023.

Steel cut for an innovation

On November 18, 2021, Silversea's management team celebrated the start of construction of the Silver Nova in Papenburg with the traditional steel cutting ceremony - and thus also the beginning of a new era in the cruise industry. As the first hybrid luxury cruise ship to produce zero emissions in port, the Silver Nova sets new standards in sustainability and shipping. With its hybrid energy sources, the ship is an absolute novelty. Fuel cells and batteries are used in port, while the Silver Nova uses liquefied natural gas (LNG) as its main fuel. This means that the ship can also be operated in port and on the water with virtually zero emissions. In direct comparison to the previous ship class, the Muse class, this reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 40 percent.

"Our Nova-class ships represent a significant investment in unprecedented technological solutions. They bring us much closer to our goal of protecting the environment without sacrificing comfort or luxury," said Roberto Martinoli, President and CEO of Silversea Cruises. "The Silver Nova is the manifestation of Silversea and Royal Caribbean Group's long-term commitment to sustainability."
However, the type of fuel is not all that the Nova generation ships do in terms of sustainability. A waste system that reduces the volume of waste on board, the ability to switch off the main generators in selected ports and connect to the shore power grid and a pioneering hydrodynamic ship design are also part of the measures towards greener cruising.

Experience on board

Guests enjoy their vacation on the Nova not only with a clear conscience, but also with a great deal of luxury. She is one of the most spacious cruise ships ever built. With a crew-to-guest ratio of 1:1.3, passengers can also expect one of the most personalized services at sea as well as a dedicated butler service for all suites. The ship can accommodate a total of 728 guests.

She will be delivered in summer 2023 and members of Silversea's loyalty program, the Venetian Society, and travel agents will have access to pre-sales from 16 December. General sales start on January 6, 2022.
