But instead of altering the house’s character, it was brought into the present with great care and a clear vision: historical elements such as the paneling, the staircase, the salon, and the grand piano—on which Clara Schumann and Johannes Brahms are said to have once played—were preserved; the house was thoughtfully updated with modern comforts, high-quality materials, and a small spa area featuring a sauna and an onsen bath. Sustainable solutions such as a water-source heat pump and close collaboration with regional craft businesses also shaped the renovation.
