Villa Nicoletta on Lake Altaussee
Villa Nicoletta is special not only because of its location, but also because of its history. When Nicoletta Wabitsch discovered the house, the turn-of-the-century villa was showing its age; originally intended only as a summer home, it had already been written off by many. But instead of altering the house’s character, it was brought into the present with great care and a clear vision: historical elements such as the paneling, the staircase, the salon, and the grand piano—on which Clara Schumann and Johannes Brahms are said to have once played—were preserved; the house was thoughtfully updated with modern comforts, high-quality materials, and a small spa area featuring a sauna and an onsen bath. Sustainable solutions such as a water-source heat pump and close collaboration with regional craft businesses also shaped the renovation.
Today, the villa uniquely bridges history and the present. Five double rooms with en-suite bathrooms, an elegant salon, a stylish dining room, a walk-in mini-bar with access to the garden, spacious terraces, and an attic for yoga, fitness, seminars, or movie nights create a home that offers both seclusion and shared experiences. Added to this is a carefully curated art collection featuring works by prominent Austrian and international artists, which lends the rooms their distinctive atmosphere. A breakfast fridge restocked daily with regional products, daily housekeeping, and the fully stocked bar make the stay complete.
Those who wish to experience spring and summer at Lake Altaussee in an extraordinary home will find in Villa Nicoletta a place where history remains palpable, art comes to life, and the beauty of the Ausseerland inspires anew every day.
