Update for Spa & Bar

Six Senses Douro Valley with innovations

With the Six Senses luxury hotel brand, the name says it all. The aim is to appeal to all the senses. It is therefore only logical to keep up with the times and constantly evolve. The latest update of the Portuguese offshoot of the Asian brand concerns the spa and the kitchen. The former has been given a fresh look, the latter a new concept.

Water in the spa

Architecturally and therapeutically, the new heated indoor pool is the star of the Six Senses Douro Valley. It has been equipped with many modern elements and now also fulfills therapeutic functions. The integrated hydrotherapy circuit features powerful jets that massage the legs, lumbar region and neck. The underwater lighting acts as chromotherapy with its constant color frequency, while the underwater sound therapy has a calming effect with its vibrations. The sound experience is a very special one. This is because the sound waves, which are reflected from the floor and the pool walls, provide sound from all directions. The resulting sensory experience is unforgettable. The frequency of the underwater sound therapy changes throughout the day. A cold plunge pool with five-degree water - which has an anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effect - and a 38-degree vitality pool complete the offer.
In the fitness room, brand new, state-of-the-art equipment awaits anyone who wants to work out. In the indoor yoga studio, you can practise aerial yoga with a wonderful panoramic view over centuries-old trees and the indoor pool. And on the wall, the ceiling-high mirror transforms into a screen with a single movement. Guests can use it to take part in numerous online courses. These are led by health experts from all over the world.

Fire in the kitchen

The new gastro concept is dedicated to the element of fire. In the Open Kitchen, the "Fire Bar Menu" is the star of the show. Here, the kitchen team conjures up culinary masterpieces with passion and a deep respect for local, seasonal and purely organic products, which are designed to retain and fully develop their flavor. A Dry Ager pays homage to the fine art of dry-aged meat and takes Portuguese cuisine to a new level. By the way, it's worth taking a look outside the box. The floor consists of handmade mosaic tiles made from pigmented cement in the old tradition.
"It was time to modernize our spa, install modern fitness equipment and give the Open Kitchen a healthy makeover that reflects our love of food and drink," says André Buldini, General Manager Six Senses Douro Valley. "The Six Senses brand philosophy of reconnecting people with nature is at the heart of every decision we make."
