Terreno Barrio Hotel: A new lifestyle hotel breathes vibrant new life into Palma’s creative district, El Terreno.
Palma's hottest new opening in June!
“The Terreno Barrio Hotel is not a traditional hotel, but a vibrant part of the neighborhood—a place where the local community, travelers, and the city naturally come together and enrich one another,” explains Hotel Director Nabil Aguilera. This philosophy is reflected throughout the concept: The hotel sees itself as a “neighborhood within a neighborhood” and aims to connect guests with locals alike.
Architecture Between History and the Future
The renowned Palma-based studio OHLAB has overseen the architecture. The concept marries a historic, listed building from the 1930s with a modern structure crafted using sustainable timber-construction methods. The two edifices are linked by open communal spaces designed to foster interaction and a sense of community. The hotel is organised into three central areas: The “Bazaar” within the new building encompasses a café, coworking spaces, a spa, and other open-access amenities. The “Stage” within the historic building showcases the lobby, restaurant, and bar as the neighborhood’s vibrant hub. In between lies the “Alley,” an open passageway that deliberately connects the hotel to its urban surroundings.
Two Living Worlds Under One Roof
The 41 individually designed rooms and suites mirror the hotel’s architectural duality. In the historic wing, original structures mingle with contemporary design elements and works by the Mallorcan artist Pedro Óliver. The new building, meanwhile, showcases natural materials, clean lines, and contemporary art, including pieces by Albert Pinya.
The result is two distinct yet harmoniously interconnected living spaces that elegantly unite history and the present.
Mediterranean cuisine and hidden culinary gems
Culinary-wise, the Terreno Barrio Hotel, with its restaurantDestape, focuses on regional products, artisanal quality, and a modern interpretation of Mediterranean cuisine. Under the direction of Chef Gabriel Conti, a vibrant meeting place for guests and locals is taking shape. The experience is complemented by the rooftop terrace El Terrado, which offers an impressive view of the Castell de Bellver.
The hidden speakeasy club Dos Rombos ensures special evenings. Behind a secret entrance lies an exclusive venue that reinterprets bar and club culture and lends the hotel a surprising, playful dimension.
More than a mere hotel
Terreno Barrio offers a spa, fitness facilities, and coworking spaces, alongside a rooftop pool with sweeping views of Palma, an in-house cinema, and a curated cultural programme. Film, art, and community are integral to the concept, and sustainability is equally central: the property was designed according to passive house principles and has achieved LEED Platinum certification. In doing so, it combines architectural distinction with a contemporary understanding of luxury and responsibility. Just a few minutes from the Old Town, the harbor, and the beach, El Terreno is increasingly becoming one of Palma’s most vibrant neighborhoods. With the Terreno Barrio Hotel, the district now gains a new gathering place where design, culture, and community coalesce into a shared way of life.
