Summer in South Tyrol: these are our hotel tips

A dream for connoisseurs and active vacationers 365 days a year

Summer is the time for active vacationers in South Tyrol. Hiking, golfing, climbing, cycling, swimming, horse riding, surfing and sailing - now everything is possible in the midsummer valleys, right up to the glaciers. Between King Ortler, the highest mountain in South Tyrol at 3,905 meters in the west, and the Dolomites in the east, the region is transformed into a huge outdoor playground between June and September. In summer, the hotels outdo each other with programs for active holidaymakers.

My Arbor

The tree hotel above Bressanone/Brixen is an architectural highlight of South Tyrol. Its stilts, reminiscent of tree trunks, allow it to float above the valley. The adults-only hideaway with 104 elegant suites and a large spa is a real place of power. Relax in the garden, by the pool, on the terrace or on the daybed in the suite with a view of the valley. Hikers and bikers can quickly reach the Plose with the cable car within walking distance. The 7-course à la carte dinner is excellent. Half-height partitions create plenty of privacy in the restaurant without obstructing the panoramic view.

Hotel Lamm

Connoisseurs will love the four-star hotel on the church square in Castelrotto/Kastelruth. After a round of golf on the St. Vigil course or a tour of the Alpe di Siusi, which is just minutes away, you can relax in the warm earthy tones of the hotel. And not just in the spa, where the roof over the pool can be opened to reveal a view of the church tower and the sky. A visit is worthwhile for Marc Oberhofer alone. The chef shines in the Lampl Stube with local produce and traditional dishes, which he takes to a new level with a contemporary twist.

Terentnerhof

The Engl family has turned their grandfather's guesthouse into a four-star hotel with five-star facilities. Since 2024, the hotel in Val Pusteria has been impressing guests with top-designed rooms and suites as well as a spa tower. Event, bio, aroma and steam saunas are spread over several levels. On the roof there is an infinity edge pool and a large whirlpool with a view of the mountains. These can be hiked or conquered by bike. Host and chef Harry Engel is a passionate cyclist. He rents out mountain bikes free of charge and gives tips for routes up to the nearby Kronplatz. www.terentnerhof.com

Cyprianerhof

In the morning, the hotel at the foot of the Rosengarten resembles a beehive as guests fortify themselves for the day's adventures at the breakfast buffet. By lunchtime, almost everyone has gone out - for hiking, biking or climbing. Those who don't set off alone join guided tours. In the afternoon, everyone returns for an aperitif with alpenglow and to relax in the spa. The outdoor saltwater whirlpool and the glass sauna with a view of the rose garden are new. In the evening, the hotel's daughter, head chef Monika Damian, will spoil you with South Tyrolean delicacies.
