Reservations already possible at the new Four Seasons House

The legendary San Domenico Palace, idyllically situated on the Ionian coast of Sicily, has been popular with travelers from all over the world for many years. The hotel scores with its unique charm and its deep connection to its historical past. Both attributes will remain, even when the iconic hotel reopens as San Domenico Palace, Taormina, A Four Seasons Hotel in summer 2021. Reservations are already being accepted.

From monastery to hotel

In 1896, the San Domenico Hotel opened on the site where the Dominican monastery had been built in the 14th century, with a new building in Italian Art Nouveau style. It directly adjoins the old monastery wing and is still preserved today in the Grand Hotel Wing. The hotel quickly secured a regular clientele among royalty and the nobility. Artists, writers and Hollywood stars followed. Today, travelers from all over the world come here, united by the search for something special and full of character. The hotel has been completely modernized with great respect for the history of the building and the necessary sensitivity. "San Domenico Palace is a legend of European hospitality and it is an honor to welcome the hotel to our portfolio on the occasion of its 125th anniversary," says Simon Casson, President, Hotel Operations - Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Guests stay in 11 guest rooms and suites, some of which have their own private terraces and plunge pools, relax in the spa, swim in the infinity pool or get active in the fitness room. But the surroundings of the hotel, set in lush Italian gardens, also offer all kinds of breathtaking things. "We are looking forward to reopening in summer, Taormina's high season, so that we can welcome our guests to a unique Sicilian vacation experience," says General Manager Lorenzo Maraviglia. "Taormina's landmarks are right on our doorstep, such as the ancient Greek theater, which is just a stroll away, as well as countless other historical sites to discover, endless scenic expanses perfect for impressive hikes and the lure of Isola Bella and Grotta Azzura - part of an exclusive yacht excursion that will be just one of the tailor-made experiences we are planning for our guests," says the Italian-born manager. He is returning to Italy after his last Four Seasons position in Dubai.

Authenticity is also a priority in the kitchen. Executive Chef Massimo Mantarro, a native of Sicily, will be leading the team. He draws inspiration for his culinary masterpieces from the surroundings of Mount Etna.
