Royal India reinterpreted
Six Senses Fort Barwara
It took ten years to carefully restore this 14th century fort, which today forms the Six Senses Fort Barwara. The stately complex originally belonged to a royal family and is located opposite the Chauth ka Barwara Mandir temple in the culturally rich region of Rajasthan.
Today's resort consists of two palaces, two original temples and 48 beautifully appointed suites. Three restaurants offer innovative menus with locally sourced ingredients and the impressive Six Senses Spa is a peaceful sanctuary for body, mind and soul. The property overlooks the charming village of Barwara to the west and a forest to the east. The famous tigers of Ranthambore National Park are just a short drive away.
The suites in the east wing offer a magnificent view of the countryside. Those in the west wing overlook Barwara village and the expanse. The suites, all between 70 and 280 square meters in size, create a link between royal history and modernity. The contemporary Rajasthani style skillfully captures the historical backdrop of the fort. At the same time, state-of-the-art technology and the pioneering "Sleep With Six Senses" standard are integrated. This includes handmade mattresses, cotton bed linen and other amenities for a restful night's sleep.
Roohani is the flagship restaurant at Six Senses Fort Barwara. The focus is on the power of local produce, sourced from the hotel's own organic garden and local farms and presented in innovative ways. The cuisine of Rajasthan, fresh and sustainable with its wonderful Indian flavors and spices, is perfect for the "Eat with Six Senses" approach. The medieval domes of the fort add a certain drama to any stay here.
If you wish, you can chat with the sommelier in the Viewing Gallery or enjoy a delicious signature cocktail before dinner in the Rajawat Room. The Shikar Burj is also available for a special evening for two under the stars. It offers a magnificent panoramic view of the surrounding area.
The Six Senses Spa is located in the Zanana Mahal (the women's palace) and, together with the fitness center, forms an oasis of well-being. On 2,800 square meters, guests can expect a wide range of services. These include signature massages, Ayurvedic treatments, nourishing facials as well as mindfulness exercises and individually tailored wellness programs.
Six Senses Integrated Wellness also plays a central role here and is led by experts and visiting practitioners. Based on the preventative principles of Eastern medicine and results-oriented Western influences, Six Senses has developed an innovative approach to wellness with leading experts. Guests are taken on a journey of discovery with the aim of sending them home with a long-lasting improved sense of well-being, regardless of the length of their stay.
An important aspect of the restoration was also the preservation of the traditional gardens and water features as well as the native flora and fauna. To this end, landscape architect Savita Punde and horticulturist Pradeep Kishen were brought on board to support the team of experts. Another important project was the restoration of Lake Barwara, primarily to bring the groundwater level back into balance. To this end, invasive plant species that were causing the subsidence were removed and native species were reintroduced. This measure and the generally close cooperation with the municipality in terms of water management will ensure that the groundwater level continues to rise. This makes the fresh water supply for the population easier and more secure.
No mineral water will be imported: The Six Senses will not leave an energy footprint, which in principle is caused by importing branded drinking water. This is ensured by the use of a reverse osmosis system. The system produces still and sparkling water of the highest quality, which is served to guests free of charge in recyclable glass bottles.
