Quarantine-free from New York to Italy

Delta increases number of connections between New York JFK, Milan and Rome

The American airline has been offering quarantine-free flights from Atlanta/Georgia to Rome for some time now. From April 1, Delta Airlines will also offer quarantine-free flights from New York-JFK to Rome-Fiumicino Airport and the next day also to Milan Malpensa Airport. This will allow passengers to enter the country without the mandatory 14-day quarantine. The prerequisite is an extensive testing procedure before and after the journey.

Safe corridor flights

Delta began its innovative COVID-tested flights from Atlanta to Rome and Amsterdam back in December, followed by Milan four times a week and Rome three times a week. From May 2, the plan is to fly daily to Milan and four times a week to Rome, before switching to a daily service in June. Entry without quarantine is made possible by a strict testing program that requires a total of three negative tests. The first two tests are taken before departure. The first is a PCR test up to 72 hours before departure and the second is a rapid test before boarding at the airport.

The third test is then carried out immediately at the destination airports, directly in a facility at the airport. If this rapid antigen test is also negative, the 14-day quarantine that is normally required for people entering the country is no longer necessary. This offer is available to all customers who are currently permitted to enter Italy according to entry regulations, for example for work, health and educational reasons. Entry for tourism purposes is not possible until further notice.

Milestone in the resumption of air traffic
"The expansion of Delta's COVID-tested routes to Rome-Fiumicino and other airports in Italy represents a very important milestone in the process of recovering the aviation industry and reactivating air traffic with maximum safety," says Marco Troncone. The CEO of Aeroporti di Roma further explains: "Aeroporti di Roma has supported the implementation of COVID-tested flights, becoming the first airport operator in Europe to enable safe corridors without quarantine with the USA." He rates the company's transoceanic flights with maximum safety as a success; passengers are also very satisfied.

The Milan - New York route is one of the most important connections for Milan Airport. The CEO of SEA Milan Airports, Armando Brunini, is therefore full of expectation: "We hope that this will be the first of many more COVID-tested and quarantine-free flights that will support the start of the recovery while we wait for the vaccination campaigns to gain momentum." Allain Bellemare, Delta's E.V.P and President-International, agrees with him: "We're gradually seeing more and more global vaccination programs, but until they become widespread, corridor flights like this one can help keep our customers and crew flying safer."
