Qatar Airways: Touchless screens
Control of the on-board entertainment system via cell phone
Qatar Airways will be the first airline to enable its guests to connect their own Bluetooth headphones to the in-flight entertainment system. Passengers can also use their electronic devices such as iPads or smartphones for control via the in-flight Wi-Fi. The zero-touch technology reduces the number of contact points on the aircraft and is another piece of the puzzle of the latest COVID-19 safety measures on board.
Award-winning safety concept
Recently, Hamad International Airport in Doha, the home airport of Qatar Airways, became the first airport in the Middle East and Asia to receive a five-star award from Skytrax for its COVID-19 safety concept. The airline received the award from the British aviation rating organization shortly afterwards. It guarantees passengers that the health and safety standards meet the strictest criteria through independent testing. "As an industry leader in the fight against COVID-19 and the first global airline to recently receive a 5-star rating in the coveted Skytrax Airline Safety Rating, we are committed to ensuring the highest standards of safety and hygiene on board our aircraft at all times," says Qatar Airways Group Executive Akbar Al Baker.
To further reduce the risk of infection, Qatar Airways will soon be introducing 100% touch-free technology for its award-winning Oryx One entertainment system on all aircraft in the Airbus A350 fleet. Passengers will be able to access the screens using their own electronic devices. All they have to do is connect to the Oryxcommons WLAN on board and scan the QR code displayed on the screen. They can then immediately access the 4,000 Oryx One options. Qatar Airways enables its passengers to connect their personal Bluetooth headphones to the in-flight entertainment system. This adds another dimension to the already particularly strict safety requirements and precautions. Surface contact is also minimized.
"Our latest measures are a further step in terms of air travel safety," says Akbar Al Baker. "They are designed to reassure passengers that they are getting the most advanced customer experience there is to enjoy in the skies," the Group Executive continues. The airline currently offers daily flights from Munich and two daily flights from Frankfurt. There are five flights a week from Berlin to the most beautiful destinations in the world. In Austria, the airline offers four flights a week from Vienna.
