Airline provides access to 6,000 publications
At a time when minimizing passenger touchpoints with surfaces means maximizing personal safety, the innovation of Qatar Airways' award-winning in-flight entertainment system Oryx One comes at just the right time. More than 6,000 selected magazines and newspapers can be downloaded to personal devices days before and even after the booked flight.
Safety and environmental protection
The contactless experience, made possible in collaboration between Qatar Airways and the leading provider of digital in-flight publication content, PressReader, works very simply. Up to three days before and seven days after the booked flight, passengers can choose from 6,000 magazines and newspapers via the Oryx One in-flight entertainment app and save them in the app's library. PressReader offers thousands of media from 120 countries in more than 60 languages. There is no need to leave the app to access the downloaded content; it is displayed directly in the Oryx One app.
The new service serves several purposes. On the one hand, it expands the entertainment options available to passengers on board, while on the other, the use of personal electronics such as smartphones or tablets reduces the number of contact points on board and thus contributes to the already comprehensive safety concept on board. Another not insignificant factor: the use of digital magazines helps to reduce newspaper and magazine waste. This saves over a ton of waste paper per year.
