Splendido Mare is back

The Splendido Mare, located in the port of Portofino, is an Italian hotel legend returning from a complete renovation. Once built as a guest house for fishermen and sailors, the small 14-room Belmond Group hotel stands for relaxed glamor and a carefree dolce vita feeling. The Parisian designers from FESTEN Architecture were keen to preserve both. With a great deal of nonchalance, they have succeeded in combining nautical elements with trendy mid-century chic and Ligurian colors. This is complemented by the elegant uniforms of the young Viennese couture star Arthur Arbesser and a specially curated art collection. Favorite detail for interior fans: the 7,000 terracotta tiles in the restaurant are slightly undulating to imitate the movement of the water and convey the feeling of walking on waves. www.belmond.com
