Oasis on the oasis

The new Maldives retreat JOALI BEING opens at the end of the year

As 2021 draws to a close, a new era of wellness begins in the Maldives. That's when JOALI BEING opens in Raa Atoll, an island retreat that focuses on well-being, wellness and health. An interesting detail: it's not just the visitors who should feel good here, but also the island's vegetation. Not a single tree was felled for the construction of the 68 beach and water villas.

Eureka: Areka!

The wellbeing concept on the sister island of the natural JOALI Retreat, which is around 15 minutes away, is based on four pillars. Skin, mind, immune system and energy are the four focal points on the basis of which Professor Gerry Bodeker developed the program. The expert in traditional and integrative medicine precedes every wellness experience with a comprehensive consultation on arrival at JOALI BEING. The island's wellness experts then put together an individual program for the coming days. In AREKA, the spa area, therapists take care of guests' well-being in 39 treatment and transformation rooms. Personal wishes are taken into account as well as the guest's individual medical history and health goals. Naturopaths, therapists, exercise specialists and nutritionists turn every time-out at JOALI BEING into a transformative experience.

Hydrotherapy, salt inhalations, yoga, Pilates, sound workshops, a Russian banya sauna and a Turkish hammam are all part of the international wellness mix. An Austrian also has his hand in the game. On the so-called "sound path", the sounds of nature are picked up and made tangible for guests - it was created in collaboration with the Austrian sound healing visionary Aurelio C. Hammer, also known as Savram. There is even an herbalist's center, where interactive workshops on the healing power of herbs take place, as part of the island retreat's comprehensive wellness and health concept. It is only logical that the culinary concept on the island is also sustainable and health-focused. In three restaurants, the service-oriented team serves a variety of healthy dishes that are tailored to the needs of the guests.
