New top hotel in Crans-Montana

Just in time for the ski season, Crans-Montana is celebrating the most exciting new opening of the winter in Switzerland in December. The Six Senses Crans-Montana is located in the Valais winter sports resort in a perfect ski-in ski-out position on the edge of the forest. The hotel offers 45 terrace rooms and suites in a cozy yet alpine style. Lots of local wood, slate and quartz stone create a feel-good atmosphere. After a long day of skiing, you can relax wonderfully in the 2000 square meter Six Senses Spa. In addition to the large indoor pool, there is a second pool with a dream panorama on the roof of the chalet-style hotel. The culinary flagship next to the Wild Cabin brasserie is the Japanese restaurant Byakko. The resort's signature restaurant is named after a mystical white tiger that is said to live in the highest peaks of the Japanese Alps. It is doubtful whether the legendary tiger really exists, but the sushi and meat delicacies at Six Senses Crans-Montana are quite real. www.sixsenses.com

Vail Resorts buy Andermatt ski resort

The American ski group Vail Resorts is coming to Europe. The ski giant bought a majority stake in the Andermatt-Sedrun ski resort for around 148 million euros in the summer. The Americans are thus getting involved in one of the most exciting ski resort projects in the Alps. Egyptian-born investor Samih Sawiris had revitalized the sleepy village in the canton of Uri after the Swiss army had largely closed its bases there. Sawiris invested hundreds of millions of euros in the top Chedi Hotel, the Radisson Blue Hotel, a golf course and the ski resort, which was merged with Sedrun. Sawiris remains active in Andermatt with his hotel and real estate projects. Vail Resorts is taking over the ski resort and is announcing further investments of around 350 million euros there and in the village within three to five years. Vail Resorts operates more than 40 ski resorts in North America and Australia, including world-class ski resorts such as Vail and Beaver Creek in Colorado, Park City in Utah and Whistler Blackcomb in Canada.

St. Moritz: Resurrection of a hotel legend

The GRACE LA MARGNA opens in St. Moritz this winter. The boutique luxury hotel with 74 rooms and suites is located directly above the Rhaetian Railway station with a fantastic view over the lake and the Engadine peaks. London-based Divercity Architects have transformed the traditional Art Nouveau-style building from the early 20th century into a modern Alpine hideaway. A modern extension has been added to the historic La Margna Hotel to create space for a spa and eight bar and restaurant locations. The GRACE BAR, with its Art Nouveau elements and large arched windows overlooking the lake, is sure to be the heart of the hotel. www.gracestmoritz.ch
