New opening in Bad Ischl
Grand Elisabeth Hotel
The opening of the new "Grand Elisabeth" Hotel opens a new chapter for the Austrian empress in the world-famous Austrian spa and imperial town of Bad Ischl. Inspired by the historical flair of the town, the 4* plus hotel with its 132 rooms including 3 suites shines in a classic style with a touch of the avant-garde. In keeping with the style of the rebellious, tattooed empress, the hotel stands for freedom and for simply letting go of the reins and enjoying real life: "Follow your heart and not the crowds."
Even if the kitsch of Ernst Marischka's "Sissi" films cannot be found anywhere else in the hotel, the impressive original film carriage can be found in the hotel lobby and books about the empress are available to browse through in the hotel library. Apart from this small homage, however, the Grand Elisabeth is dedicated to the image of Elisabeth as a modern, independent and strong woman who was far ahead of her time as a trendsetter in many respects and is still revered as an icon today.
With its location right next to the Theater & Kongresshaus and the legendary Kurpark, the Grand Elisabeth is in the center of the spa town and just a short walk from Elisabeth's favorite place, the Imperial Villa of Bad Ischl. From here you can enjoy Bad Ischl's varied program with its operetta festivals, musical and theater productions, ballets and dance shows as well as the many pop and, above all, jazz concerts.
Imperial and royal wellness offers
As in the days of the Empress, beauty and wellness are a top priority at the Grand Elisabeth. The "Organic Alps Spa by Dorissima" offers facials and baths rooted in the region with products from the Bad Ischl spa pharmacy, such as the special bath salt mixture and creams of Empress Elisabeth, which are still produced according to the original recipes.
In addition, body treatments from the "Organic Alps" line from Doris Brugger's award-winning spa brand DORISSIMA pamper guests in a more essential way than Empress Elisabeth would have dared to dream of. "Organic Alps" products rely on active ingredients and aromas from Alpine essences such as Alpine rose, arnica, gentian or edelweiss. A product full of naturalness: vegan, modern and innovative.
Two saunas and an indoor pool complete the offer and the fitness studio invites you to train your body in the spirit of Elisabeth. After all, the empress was a disciplined pioneer when it came to fitness and healthy eating.
Gastronomy to Elisabeth's taste
Just in time for the opening, head chef Daniel Gschwandtner has reinterpreted some of Elisabeth's favorite dishes with a pinch of the avant-garde. Guests can look forward to Salzkammergut classics such as boiled beef and fried chicken, each of which has been spiced up with a modern twist. Modern dishes such as vegan beef tartare from the Malanzani or whole braised cauliflower bring a breath of fresh air to the gastronomic scene in Bad Ischl.
They are served in the "Grand Liberté" restaurant. The cuisine avoids artificial etiquette as well as boring mainstream and international dishes are also interpreted with generous freedom. The desserts prepared by the kitchen are another highlight at the Grande Liberté. The owners of the hotel include the Zauner family, Café und Konditorei Zauner, who enjoy an international reputation for their chocolate creations.
Anyone staying in Bad Ischl should try the Zauner delicacies from the former imperial and royal confectionery at least once. Hochzuckerbäckerei at least once. Since 1832, the artfully composed strudels, cream slices and cakes have been a sweet success story in Bad Ischl. The "To Go" hotel store offers tempting delicacies such as the world-famous Zauner stollen, Ischler tarts or the Grand Elisabeth signature pralines. All perfect travel companions, souvenirs and gifts.
The hotel bar "Violet Hour" seduces guests with its signature violet spritz and invites them to let time flow freely. Here you can start the evening with a relaxed aperitif and let your thoughts run free.

Let's Go for a Ride
In the spirit of the empress, the Grand Elisabeth offers a curated program of carriage rides on the favorite routes of the Austrian empress.
With its many mountains and hiking trails, the town is a real centerpiece for many hiking enthusiasts. The empress herself scaled every serious peak around Bad Ischl by storm, as the "Salzkammergut locals" still testify with admiration to this day. The hotel has therefore put together some of her royal routes so that guests can follow in the footsteps of their favorite empress.
Golfing around Bad Ischl
Just a few minutes away from the Grand Elisabeth is the traditional Salzkammergut Golf Club with its picturesque 18-hole course. Surrounded by alpine nature, the varied fairways and manicured greens offer challenges for all levels - with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains. After the round, the stylish clubhouse invites you to relax with regional specialties.
Bad Ischl - An imperial attitude to life
Bad Ischl combines imperial heritage with a modern lifestyle. Settled as early as the Hallstatt period, the town developed into the summer residence of Emperor Franz Joseph in the 19th century, making it the center of the Austrian monarchy. The splendor of this era still characterizes the townscape today and gives Bad Ischl its unique charm. Culture plays a central role: a varied calendar of events with concerts, exhibitions, theater and festivals delights guests all year round. Highlights such as the Lehár Festival, the Imperial Days or the New Year's Concert bring history to life and make it tangible. Bad Ischl also shows its best culinary side - from the "Liachtbratl" to the famous Zaunerstollen, the spectrum ranges from regional cuisine to sweet classics. Whether wellness in the thermal spa, hiking on the Katrin or strolling through the town center: Bad Ischl offers a successful mix of relaxation, activity and enjoyment. The charming shopping town scores with traditional businesses, stylish fashion and a creative mix of crafts and culinary delights.
