New lodge in Zimbabwe
Opening of the Tembo Plains Camp on August 1
In the middle of the private 118,000-hectare Sapi Reserve in Zimbabwe, the exclusive five-star Tembo Plains Camp opens on August 1, 2021. It is a member of the Relais & Châteaux portfolio and guarantees its guests unique moments in the African wilderness.
Homage to the elephants
With "Tembo", which can be translated as "elephant", the name of the new luxury accommodation already sets the tone. The entire camp is a tribute to the animal kingdom. In addition to wild dogs, buffalo and leopards, the Sapi Reserve is also home to an infinite number of bird species. It is not without reason that it is considered one of the best wildlife destinations in Africa. No wonder, as it is located directly on the famous UNESCO World Heritage Site Mana Pools Reserve in the west and the reserve border runs for more than 40 kilometers along the Zambezi River in the north. Photographers and nature lovers are guaranteed to get their money's worth on the regularly offered day and twilight drives, walking safaris, canoe and boat trips. Guests have access to professional Canon cameras and Leica binoculars so that these special moments can be adequately captured.
After an adventurous day out in nature, guests can retire to one of the four spacious guest tents. A two-bedroom unit is available for families. It consists of two tents with a shared living and dining area and pool. Each guest tent offers an indoor lounge, an outdoor dining area, a private plunge pool, an exercise bike and a bathroom with bath and showers. Beverly Joubert, the co-founder of Great Plains, personally took care of the interior design of the family tent. The carefully arranged ensemble of guest tents makes Tembo Pleins Camp the ideal destination for couples, families and anyone looking for a particularly exclusive safari experience.
"When we designed Tembo Pleins Camp, we wanted to reference the famous ruins of the former town of Great Zimbabwe, but not lose sight of our love of canvas and exploring the surrounding area. The result is a unique combination of canvas and stone walls," says Dereck Joubert, CEO of Great Plains, explaining the design concept of the new luxury lodge in Zimbabwe. The sustainable tourism company Great Plains, which was founded in 2006, aims to welcome its first guests in August 2021.
