Matild Palace has been renovated

The hotel is part of the Luxury Collection and will open in early summer 2021

It is located right in the heart of Budapest, has a particularly rich history and is even a UNESCO World Heritage Site: we are talking about the Matild Palace, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Budapest. The opening is planned for May 31, 2021.

Hotel with history

The hotel was built during the Belle Époque in 1902, under the patronage of Maria Clotilde of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. The so-called Klothilden Palaces are twin buildings that act as a kind of entrance gate at the Elisabeth Bridge in the direction of Pest. For a long time, they were considered the social center of the city. Even back then, the palaces built by architects Kalman Giergl and Floris Korb housed cafés, galleries, boutiques and apartments. A lot of water has flowed down the Danube since then, but one thing remains the same: the listed façade of the palace. MKV Design renovated the Matild Palace with a keen sense of the history of the location. The aim: to combine the Hungarian heritage with a contemporary style.

The result is 111 palatial rooms and 19 modern loft suites with Art Nouveau interiors. Each room is over four meters high and thus conveys a feeling of space. The bathrooms are dominated by turquoise glass mosaics, golden accents and marble. The loft suites offer wonderful views over the rooftops of the city. The Matild Palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site - one of the few where you can even stay overnight. And that's not all: the restaurant concept is also impressive.

Puck in Pest

Austrian celebrity chef Wolfgang Puck will be responsible for the three restaurants, in-room dining and meeting/event catering. He will also open the first European branch of his famous Beverly Hills restaurant Spago at Matild Palace. This will include an open kitchen, modern Hungarian recipes with local produce, accents of leather, copper, wood and marble.

The Duchess, a secret "Liquor Library", is being created on the rooftop. Guests can enjoy excellent drinks with a view of the Elisabeth Bridge, the Danube and Gellért Hill in an ambience inspired by Archduchess Maria Klotild. The bar can only be reached via a hidden entrance using private lifts. From September, the Matild Café and Cabaret will complement the hotel's offerings. The glamorous times of the 1960s will be revived in shows. Leisure facilities at Matild Palace include a spa with Turkish bath, a gym, yoga and Pilates sessions.
