A gem on Lake Constance

Mammertsberg enters a new era

Silvio Germann has taken over the lease for the boutique hotel in Freidorf on the Swiss side of Lake Constance to lead the historic property of owners Daniela and Jürg Maurer into the future with a personal touch and fine cuisine. On October 1, the new hosts opened the doors to the new Mammertsberg for the first time, together with sommelier and restaurant manager Giuseppe Lo Vasco and Chef de Réception Carolin Gierling. In addition to six stylish rooms and spacious suites on the upper floors, the hotel will in future offer a gourmet restaurant on the first floor of the historic part of the building, a bistro in the Monolith and a walk-in humidor and wine cellar with various lounges. The location is also inviting: modernized ten years ago by the iconic Swiss architect Tilla Theus, the boutique hotel is slightly elevated with an unobstructed view of Lake Constance, the hilly landscape of Thurgau and the Appenzell Alps. The small garden was designed by Swiss landscape architect Enzo Enea.

The new interior impresses with a balanced duality between a magnificent past and a gentle, timeless modernism. High ceilings, large openings and arched windows meet elegantly paneled walls and wooden fixtures as well as comfortable, organically shaped furniture made of linen, bouclé, leather, wood and wool.

A light-flooded passerelle houses Germann's place of work: the open kitchen. From here, the chef serves dishes such as whitefish with rainbow radish and roe, mushrooms with BBQ and dashi or chamois with celeriac, plum and bitter salads - above all a Cicorino Rosso, which his chefs can harvest directly from the kitchen garden, along with kale, celery, kohlrabi and some herbs. The menu comprises a choice of three to five courses and is rounded off with an amuse-bouche to set the mood and a surprise course on request.
