IHG Hotels opens Convent Square Lisbon
New arrival in Lisbon
With the Convent Square Lisbon, Vignette Collection, IHG Hotels & Resorts is expanding its luxury and lifestyle portfolio to the second largest in the world. The new hotel in Lisbon is the second Vignette Collection hotel in Europe and the sixth worldwide.
Convent Square Lisbon is located in a converted 13th century Dominican monastery in the Baixa, not far from the hotspots of Rossio Square, Avenida de Libertade, Terreiro do Paço and Chiado. The historic building was commissioned by King Sancho II and completed in 1242. There are 121 rooms available to guests. An idyllic open-air atmosphere awaits them in the monastery garden and the characteristic cloister. The roof of the indoor pool offers a view of the city, including the São Domingos church.
On the culinary front, the Caputo restaurant in the former meeting room is open to guests throughout the day, where chef Victor Sobral serves contemporary interpretations of traditional Portuguese cuisine. In the characteristic cloister garden, canapés and drinks are served in the open air, while guests can enjoy a selection of tapas in the lounge while listening to live music. Artworks by renowned Portuguese artists are displayed throughout the hotel, including Pedro Calapez and Pedro Cabrita Reis, who created a sculpture for the hotel's cloister. The spa combines the ancient healing practices of the Dominican monks with the present day and guests can prepare their own herbal and leafy blends in the cloister courtyard.
The Vignette Collection focuses on the balance between uniqueness and commonality. No two properties in the collection are the same, yet all are united by the vision of providing a more authentic way of traveling that is sustainable, luxurious, exclusive, elegant and intriguing. Tom Rowntree, Vice President of Luxury & Lifestyle Brands at IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: "We are delighted that Convent Square Lisbon, Vignette Collection joins IHG's ever-growing Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio. The Vignette Collection is unique - each hotel is one of a kind and offers its own perspective and story. The Collection is united by a shared vision of making travel good for people, place and planet. It also offers travelers the opportunity to have authentic historical experiences while supporting the region."
Regionally, Convent Square works with Corações Com Coroa and supports their campaign to empower women. In addition to funding housing and school supplies for young girls, the hotel will help empower women through an internship program.
