Banyan Tree goes Mozambique
The Banyan Tree Ilha Caldeira opens in the second quarter
The more than 40 Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts worldwide will be joined by another luxury hotel towards the end of the year. Its location: a private island in the Indian Ocean, not far from the coast of Mozambique.
Luxury in the jungle
The island that is to be home to the new Banyan Tree Resorst in the future has the melodious name "Ilha Caldeira". It is located around 20 kilometers off the coast of Mozambique and can be reached by helicopter, yacht or catamaran from the mainland. The nearest airports are Nampula and Nacala. The center of the small island is lushly overgrown and resembles a jungle. A sand dune surrounds the island. This makes it look like a volcanic "caldera" - which gave it its name, and thus also the resort. The new Banyan Tree Ilha Caldeira is located in the middle of a marine reserve, which makes the resort the perfect starting point for dives through a particularly breathtaking marine world. Around 20 percent of Mozambique's intact coral reefs are located here.
The brand's first African property will have 40 pool villas offering guests breathtaking views of the Indian Ocean. The villas are available in one, two, three and four bedroom variants. Each villa is equipped with its own pool. During their construction, great importance is attached to sustainable construction methods in order to protect the tropical nature of the island in the Primeiras and Segundas archipelago. During their stay, visitors will have the opportunity to connect with the pristine natural environment and the rich cultural heritage of Mozambique.
Of course, the latest brand addition also offers all the amenities one would expect from a stay at a Banyan Tree Resort. The award-winning Banyan Tree Spa will be available as well as the Banyan Tree Signature Restaurant "Saffron", which serves authentic Thai cuisine. In addition to a library, fitness center, kids club, tennis courts and a large communal pool with ocean views, the new Banyan Tree Ilha Caldeira will have its own sustainably cultivated vegetable garden and offer a variety of activities. These range from stargazing to bonfires on the beach and sunset cruises.
