Zurich restaurant "Bank
New concept at Helvetiaplatz
An open kitchen, colorful flowers and fresh vegetables on the tables, Mediterranean-oriental inspired dishes to share and opening hours that fit in with the vibrant area around Zurich's Helvetiaplatz in district 4. This is how the new restaurant "Bank" presents itself, in which the family business Bindella is now also involved alongside Fredy Burger. Rudi Bindella Jr. is responsible for the relaunch and wants to open up new areas with this project.
Rudi Bindella Jr. has engaged
the trendy Bernese restaurateur Tom Weingart as the new managing director. He moved from Bern to Zurich last summer and wants to gain a foothold here. "Zurich is bigger and faster, which fascinates me," says Weingart, explaining his move to the city on the Limmat.
In addition to minor visual changes to the interior, the food offering in particular has been completely revamped. Rudi Bindella Jr. was inspired by his brother Christian, who opened a restaurant in Tel Aviv four years ago. The idea - small portions to share - inspired him. "In the 'Bank' on Zurich's Helvetiaplatz, I saw the perfect place to adapt a similar concept. Incidentally, it was implemented by Or Shapira, a chef from Tel Aviv," says Bindella Jr. Roasted cauliflower with cream cheese, baked sweet potatoes with date honey and pistachios or braised beef short ribs with couscous and almonds: The cuisine is Mediterranean-oriental with varied and surprising combinations that harmonize perfectly.
But drinks and cocktails are also on the menu at the "Bank"
on the menu, which are available on Saturdays and Sundays until 2 am. The hangover brunch the next day is available at weekends from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and can be conveniently ordered using the order form. The new head chef at the "Bank" is Ramanan Thamotharampillai. The father of two came to Switzerland from Sri Lanka 15 years ago and started out as an assistant chef in the family business Bindella. He caught up on his training and worked his way up to sous-chef at Terrasse. The likeable chef is looking forward to his new role: "There are many parallels between Tamil cuisine and Mediterranean-Oriental cuisine. I love spices and herbs and grew up with them," says the rising star. Incidentally, his personal favorite dish is the crispy meatballs with mashed vegetables and potatoes and sesame puree.
