Weekend trip to Malta
The highlights in the fall
How about a short break in Malta, a weekend trip to Valletta? A (long) weekend in Malta's picturesque capital is worthwhile for many reasons. And as fall approaches, there are a few more very special highlights that you should definitely experience!
Although Valletta is the smallest European capital, it is bursting with artistic and architectural diversity and also has an exciting and historic past that is well worth immersing yourself in. A lively coffee culture, numerous squares worth seeing, lush gardens, interesting exhibitions and exciting art installations await us here. So it's no wonder that Valletta was even European Capital of Culture in 2018.
These are Malta's event highlights in the fall:
Malta hosts an incredible wealth of events throughout the year that appeal to all ages and tastes. Therefore, there are still great events to visit in the fall and winter. For example the
Notte Bianca,
one of the largest annual art and culture festivals in Malta, which always takes place on the first Saturday in October. The entire city of Valletta, from the City Gate to Fort St. Elmo, comes to life for Notte Bianca, guaranteeing an unforgettable night that truly has something for everyone. www.festivals.mt/nb
One week later, from October 07 - 09, the Notte Bianca comes to life with the
Birgufest
the next absolute highlight in Malta's event calendar. The small, historic fortress town of Birgu is lit up by thousands of candles, chandeliers hang in the streets and music plays in the winding alleyways. . What began as a few small events has now developed into a larger program that spans an entire weekend. Visitors can now enjoy various experiences, such as historical re-enactments and candlelit dinners in the beautiful town square. www.cottonera.info/candlelight
The spectacular sailing race from Malta to Sicily and back is also starting for the 42nd time this year. The start of over 100 sailing boats from the Grand Harbour is a special feast for the eyes. The race will take place
Rolex Middle Sea Race
on 22.10.2022 with the start in Valletta. www.rolexmiddlesearace.com
Another spectacular event takes place at the beginning of each year: The
Valletta Baroque Festival
which offers audiences a unique event featuring some of the best soloists and ensembles on the Baroque music scene. The main venue for this prestigious two-week festival in January is the Teatru Manoel, one of the oldest functioning theaters in the world. It is also well worth a visit during the Christmas season, which is celebrated in a remarkably festive way in Malta. The bright, festively decorated streets are particularly impressive. www.festivals.mt/vbf/
