Refurbished e-bikes from March 12, 2024 in Austria

The e-bike market is booming. Every second bicycle purchased in Austria is already an e-bike, which in figures amounts to around 250,000 electric bikes per year. There are currently around 1.1 million (1) e-bikes on Austria's roads. If the market for bicycles grew by 3.2% between 2022 and 2023, the e-bike segment grew by 11% (²). The second-hand market and the call for comprehensive sustainability concepts are also growing along with the number of bikes. On March 12, 2024, Upway, a company that sells a wide range of e-bikes after professional reconditioning at an affordable price and delivers them directly to your home, will also be launched in Austria.

"Entering the Austrian market is a very special thing for us: Austria is a pioneer, a country of cyclists and mountain bikers, characterized on the one hand by a high level of environmental awareness, and on the other hand by a landscape that offers almost ideal conditions for enjoying exercise in nature," says Toussaint Wattinne, one of the founders of Upway.

In contrast to platforms that specialize in matching buyers and sellers and do not provide any product guarantees, at upway-ebike.at every e-bike is overhauled by a team of professional bike mechanics according to a standardized 20-point maintenance plan. This quality management covers everything from the battery to the bell and ensures that every e-bike is as good as new.

The e-bike offered for sale is extensively photographed in a dedicated photo station. In the online store, you don't see a product photo of the manufacturer, but exactly the bike you want to buy. Using filterable search criteria such as body size, brand, type, frame shape, mileage and price, you can find the bike of your choice. Delivery is made to your doorstep within 3 to 7 working days. E-bikes, e-mountain bikes and cargo bikes are currently on offer, with all the top brands such as Cube, KTM, Husqvarna and Scott represented in the range. In line with the motto "second hand - first choice", the refurbished bikes are up to 60% cheaper than new and come with a 1-year warranty. As an online retailer, Upway must also grant a 14-day right of return. If you want to sell your e-bike, upway-ebike.at is also the right address. You can have the bike assessed online using a questionnaire and receive a price proposal. If you agree, the bike will be collected free of charge.


Upway: Extend the life of your bike

The bike refurbishment specialist not only offers customers a lower purchase price compared to buying a new bike, but also reduces the carbon footprint of each individual e-bike. The start-up was founded in Paris in 2021 by Toussaint Wattinne and Stéphane Ficaja and, with Upway workshops in France (Paris), Belgium (Mechelen), the USA (New York) and Germany (Berlin), handles all processes from purchase and refurbishment to sale completely in-house and from a single source. Upway's remanufactured e-bikes are currently available in France, Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, the USA and, since March 12, 2024, also in Austria.

"Our vision is to make electric bikes more affordable on the one hand and to extend the lifespan of each individual bike on the other in order to help make mobility more sustainable," says Toussaint Wattinne.
