FOOD ZURICH - Eleven days of Zurich at its finest

Whether it's street food, slow food or fine food: a variety of culinary events have been established in the Zwingli city. From September 7 to 17, 2017, FOOD ZURICH forms a bracket around all these events and puts an exclamation mark on the culinary map and in the travel calendar of gourmets and so-called "foodies". At the heart of the initiative by Zürich Tourism and its partners are eleven gourmet days with over 140 food events.


What is FOOD ZURICH?

Zurich is already a mecca for food lovers. From upscale top cuisine to Swiss classics and exotic street food: the people of Zurich love food and are real gourmets. That is why various culinary festivals have become increasingly popular in recent years. FOOD ZURICH, launched by Zürich Tourism and partners, offers all these events a joint platform from September 7 to 17, 2017.


Opening party at the Jelmoli department store

The FOOD ZURICH Festival will take place for the second time on September 7, 2017. The event will open at Jelmoli's "Food Market", the traditional department store on the world-famous Bahnhofstrasse in the heart of Zurich. To kick off the major event, star chefs from the 5-star hotels Baur au Lac, Park Hyatt Zurich, Storchen Zurich, The Dolder Grand and Widder Hotel will welcome guests with specialties. The chefs mainly use local products from Switzerland and young chefs show what can be prepared from leftovers. Everything is prepared fresh and live on site for visitors.


140 food-related events

A good 140 food-related events are planned in Zurich over the course of eleven enjoyable days. Unforgettable dinners will take place in established restaurants and unique locations - for example in the forest, in the city nursery, at Google or in the thermal baths. Foodies can sample delicacies and novelties at a variety of tastings and exciting workshops will show inquisitive minds how to prepare the most exotic dishes at home. Many other program items round off the varied FOOD ZURICH program: A walk through Zurich's city forest in search of edibles, a nose-to-tail cooking course, a dinner in the former Razzia cinema, guided tours through culinary Zurich, film screenings about the production and origin of food, concerts and competitions are further highlights during these enjoyable days.


City court "Vörigs"

Once again this year, a so-called "town court" will give the festival a face. Under the motto "Vörigs" - which can be roughly translated as leftover cuisine - various Zurich restaurant operators will be offering a "Vörigs" dish on their menus during the FOOD ZURICH days. Old-established eateries and young trendy restaurants will show how diverse leftovers can be and what delicacies can be conjured up from unharvested or unsold food - if you want to.


Day of the city court

The topic of sustainability is extremely important to FOOD ZURICH and the Slow Food Youth Switzerland association is raising awareness of the issue of food waste among interested visitors with a "City Court Day" on Saturday, September 9, 2017. At the "Schnippeldisko", people will wash, prepare and chop together to good music in order to cook a tasty soup or stew for around 1,000 expected guests. A preserving station and a juicer, which can be used under supervision to preserve fruit and vegetables for longer, as well as an exhibition on the topic round off the "City Court Day".


Street food and the "Chuchi"

The street food festival, which has already become a cult event, takes place during FOOD ZURICH on the site of the former Hardturm stadium - many simply call it the stadium wasteland. Around 70 street food specialists present delicacies from all over the world. The FOOD ZURICH "Chuchi", or kitchen, is right in the middle of it all. In this public space, people cook, mix, taste, talk and eat at four cooking islands and a bar. The public is cordially invited to join in.


Closing party at Zurich's Engrosmarkt

FOOD ZURICH will conclude with a lavish party on September 16, 2017. The event, which is all about food, will take place in the halls of the Engrosmarkt in the trendy Zurich-West district. This is where all the chefs, restaurants, street kitchens and manufacturers will come together once again to bring the festival to a close. The party with DJs and lots of delicacies and delights will last until the early hours of the morning.
