Many beauty treatments promise a new anti-ageing miracle weapon that lasts the test of time. All sorts of tips and tricks are used, but not all treatments are completely convincing in the end. The fact is that invasive treatments with little to no downtime are definitely on the rise.

The plasma pen is one of the so-called beauty aids that do not require a scalpel. In her Medical Beauty practice in Vienna, Dr. Ludmilla Zahlbruckner focuses on modern technology, high-dose active ingredients and compressed treatment techniques that help to improve the appearance of the skin - known as skin resurfacing. This also includes the plasma pen. The anti-ageing expert attaches great importance to naturalness in the application, which includes a main treatment and a follow-up treatment. After all, the harmonious, lively features of the face should be retained.

"The plasma pen is used to treat wrinkles and drooping eyelids," says Zahlbruckner. Crow's feet and scars can also be reduced and minor blemishes such as age and sun spots removed. The special thing about the pen is that it works with a combination of plasma and low-frequency technology. According to the beauty expert, this minimizes swelling after the treatment, reduces downtime, enables faster healing and minimizes possible side effects. As the expert explains, an ionized gas cloud from an electric arc in the plasma pen is used to vaporize the excess skin at specific points. The surrounding skin is then tightened by the heat. The process can take several weeks, as new collagen fibers are slowly built up.

"The heat generated by the treatment leads to an activation of the immune system and a subsequent inflammatory reaction," says Zahlbruckner. Symptoms after the treatment include redness, swelling, a feeling of heat and slight pain. After around five to seven days, you will be socially acceptable again," she continues. The procedure is generally painless and particularly gentle. Around nine weeks after the treatment, the so-called "fine-tuning" is carried out.
