Spaced-out culinary creations

Thierry Max transforms Sur Mesure at the Mandarin Oriental Paris into a "space station".

Thierry Marx is known for his "off-the-wall" culinary creations, and now in the truest sense of the word: the French star chef from Sur Mesure at the Mandarin Oriental, Paris, recently created various dishes for French astronaut Thomas Pesquet to enjoy during his six-month stay on the International Space Station (ISS). The dishes were developed by the French Food Innovation Center under the direction of Thierry Marx and chemist Raphael Haumont in compliance with the strictest health and safety guidelines.

On the four Tuesdays in March, the Sur Mesure will be transformed into a spaceship and "non-astronauts" will be able to enjoy a spacey six-course menu with many surprises and dishes such as beef tongue, chicken breast with morels or apple pancakes.

The menu can only be booked for EUR 230 per person (excluding drinks) for March 7, 14, 21 and 28, 2017.

The Mandarin Oriental, Paris is also celebrating this collaboration with the "Planet Marx", a Mars-shaped cake made from chocolate and caramelized pears, as well as five special "Star" cocktails in Bar 8. The cake is available to take away for 8 euros in the Cake Shop and costs 15 euros if eaten in the Camélia restaurant. The specially created cocktails have resounding names such as Starman (with vodka, crème de violette, cranberry juice, lime juice, and hibiscus syrup with gold and silver powder) and Stardust (tequila, red Haut-Médoc wine, Heering liqueur and raspberry puree). The cocktails are priced at 21 euros each.
