"Oscars" for culinary excellence
Selection of the best innkeepers in Lower Austria
Lower Austria's best innkeepers were honored in the former riding school at Grafenegg Castle on 23.01.2017. For the 19th time, the state's most outstanding gourmet establishments were invited in front of the curtain and honored at the "Fest für die Wirte". In front of around 500 guests from the culinary, business and media sectors, the Hueber family from Gasthof Hueber in St. Georgen an der Leys were delighted to receive the title of "Newcomer of the Year". The prize for "Rising Star of the Year", which was awarded for the greatest progress over the past year, went to the Heinz family from the Trefflingtalerhaus inn in Puchenstuben.
The highest culinary award in Lower Austria was finally presented personally by Governor Erwin Pröll. This year's "Top Innkeeper of the Year" comes from the Vienna Alps in Lower Austria and is called Puchegger-Wirt. This is the fifth generation of the Puchegger family to run the restaurant, which impresses with its outstanding regional cuisine and warm hospitality. Regionality, seasonality and a love of cooking are top priorities for all of the evening's winners. Tourism Minister Dr. Petra Bohuslav expressed her thanks to the 230 or so establishments of Lower Austria's inn culture: "You are what makes the province a land for connoisseurs - because what would it be without good food and good drink? Thank you very much!". The guests were treated to culinary delights from the winners and nominees of the previous year, who cooked up a storm at three stations together with the "Zauberlehrlinge", the young chefs of Wirtshauskultur.
