It has already received numerous admiring accolades and has been praised as the most beautiful monument of our time and a temple of modernity: The Parisian private museum Fondation Louis Vuitton is a spectacular building made of concrete, glass and wood, built by star architect Frank Gehry. It comprises a total of eleven galleries with an exhibition space of 11,000 m² on four floors. Since its opening in 2014, the museum has offered its visitors prestigious exhibitions,
concerts, lectures and a spectacular view of the city of love. The exhibition Icons of Modern Art - The Shchukin Collection is currently on display until February 20, 2017. Top-class works on loan from the Hermitage Museum (St. Petersburg) and the Pushkin Museum (Moscow) are gathered together in the futuristic museum on the western edge of Paris. Particularly noteworthy are around 130 masterpieces by Monet, Cézanne, Gauguin, Matisse, Picasso, Degas, Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec and Van Gogh. The collector Sergei Shchukin himself and his friendships with the great art dealers and artists of the West are also the subject of the exhibition, which is being shown in its entirety outside Russia for the first time. He was one of the pioneers of collecting Western art in Russia around 1900 and inspired many of his wealthy friends to collect.
