GUCCI meets the SAVOY - a luxurious collaboration

The Italian fashion house celebrates its centenary with a celebration of its origins

Since its foundation, Gucci has often taken up the theme of travel, drawing on the iconography of luxury hotels and jetsetters. The founder of the house, Guccio Gucci, adopted these themes and symbols based on his first-hand experience.

How it all began

Guccio Gucci, the Italian entrepreneur and founder of the luxury label GUCCI, was born in Florence in 1881. After leaving school, the trained master saddler opened a small equestrian supplies store in his home town in 1906. After some time, Gucci decided to move to Paris and London.
He was employed as a porter and lift boy at The Savoy Hotel, where he gained direct access to the tastes and needs of travelers by escorting them from floor to floor. The sight of the guests' luxurious luggage and elegant clothing was a major impetus for his desire to set up his own leather goods company shortly after his return to Italy from London.

The cooperation

One hundred years after their founding, The Savoy and GUCCI are celebrating their shared history with a creative merger.
The launch of GUCCI's Aria Collection in April 2021, which was shown privately at The Savoy, put the collaboration between the two companies in the spotlight for the first time. The collection and its presentation contained numerous references to the hotel and its role in shaping GUCCI's brand mythology.

The next step in the partnership is to transform the Savoy's Royal Suite into a reflection of the GUCCI world with furniture, furnishings and decorative items from the GUCCI Décor collection. In addition, works of art and antiques from Christie's auction house have been carefully selected to complement the aesthetic, which is intended to harmonize with the design and heritage of the Savoy.

All pieces added to the Royal Suite by GUCCI and Christie's will be available for purchase. This makes the Royal Suite an exceptionally exclusive showroom and one of the most luxurious hotel suites in London. The Royal Suite offer includes a dedicated butler, access to the Savoy's Rolls Royce within a three-mile radius, return transfers, bespoke room amenities and 'GUCCI experiences'.
