Experience the traditional rum regatta at Hotel Hafen Flensburg
Flensburg is a city of rum - to honor this tradition, the famous Flensburg Rum Regatta has been held on Ascension Day weekend since 1980.
Northern Europe's largest "gaff sailor meeting" is the maritime event highlight in the far north and this year, from May 25 to 28, will once again invite many curious guests to the sporting competition with a large harbor festival - including a gaff market with music around the Flensburg inner fjord.
"Sails up for the Rum Regatta": For the 38th time, die-hard sailors will be boarding their traditional ships to put their skills to the test over three days. This year, the organizers are expecting 100 boats to take part. It starts on May 25 with the Herring Regatta from Kappeln to Sønderborg, before the fleets head for Flensburg from Sønderborg in the "Flensburg Fjord Regatta" on May 26. The Rum Regatta on May 27 will be the highlight, with the sailors sailing "from Flensburg around Tonne Acht" and curiously aiming for second place. A three-liter bottle of rum awaits the runner-up as a prize, while the first-place winner is "only" awarded a symbolic prize. It goes without saying that many captains are therefore keen not to be the first to cross the finish line. Special prizes are also awarded in categories such as the "Breach of Style Prize", for blatant mistakes in the overall appearance, or for the "best restored" ship.
