Simply divine

Pilgrimage site for purists and believers in architecture

Haus Neuendorf is one of the most extraordinary rental properties in Mallorca - and one of the most beautiful. Those who come here relax with all their senses and at the very highest level.

Surrounded by olive groves, carob trees and a huge cactus landscape in the middle of the wild Mondragò National Park in the southwest of the island, one of Mallorca's greatest architectural icons is hidden away: Neuendorf House.

Built more than 30 years ago on red earth by the famous architects John Pawson and Claudio Silvestrin, it is a sacred, minimalist work of art in its own right. A narrow slit in the high outer walls leads to a central, quiet courtyard with long natural stone benches made of travertine. From there, you enter the perfectly equipped kitchen, the center of the house in an elegant, understated design with few but luxurious materials. Floor-to-ceiling sliding glass fronts create space and width here. A spiral staircase leads to six purist bedrooms and bathrooms. Simple, understated and sustainable is the credo of Haus Neuendorf and the architects. It is about the highest aesthetics, but also about the desire to simplify things, to change the perception of space itself and to get to the essence. From the inner courtyard, a covered patio leads directly to the 40-metre-long saltwater pool, the water of which pours into a lower-lying whirlpool at the end. Refreshment and pure relaxation,

accompanied by enchanting plays of light and shadow and the gentle chirping of local birds are the order of the day here on hot Mallorcan summer days. Despite the almost oppressive weight of the house at the beginning, it becomes increasingly soft, light and graceful, protective and embracing, gentle and lively. Haus Neuendorf is a unique place and a magnificent piece of architecture that brings people together and makes them feel at home. Even on vacation.
