Costa Rica's rich culinary culture
The progressive country inspires with a diverse gastronomic tradition
Even if this is little known to tourists
Costa Rica has an amazing and very varied traditional cuisine to offer. It goes back to the influence of the different peoples who settled in the country and is still almost completely preserved.
That is why a number of entrepreneurs
of the food industry have joined forces to revive this tradition and thus expand the cultural offer for tourists. The aim is not only to preserve the culinary tradition, but also to adapt it to today's standards for more discerning gourmet tourists.
The gastronomy of Costa Rica
combines various basic elements of Latin American cuisine (alongside Spanish, Caribbean and even Chinese). What sets it apart, however, is that it is much healthier and incorporates a variety of fresh fruit, vegetables and wild plants, which allows for a wide range of dishes. Restaurant owners and chefs are reviving old traditions by incorporating the heritage of pre-Hispanic cultures such as the Bribri, the Chorotega and the Maleku into their creations.
