Berlin - Fateful years of a city - Berlin Chronicle of the RBB

Screenplay by Gabriela Denecke, spoken by Katharina Thalbach

Everyone has their own catchphrases for Berlin
- For some it may be "Cold War", John F. Kennedy or "Checkpoint Charly", for others it may be "building the Wall", the fall of the Wall and "reunification" or "Palace of Tears", Nikita Khrushchev, spectacular tunnel escapes and many more.

In 30 times 90 minutes
the 3 fateful decades of the development of a city from 1961 - 1999 are traced, which has developed from the gray city with the slogan "poor but sexy" to today's metropolis of contrasts and melting pot of cultures.

The once divided Berlin
is illuminated politically, as are the contrasts in everyday life between East and West, the global political tug-of-war between the major powers and the prominent visitors to Berlin. Events such as student protests, the founding of the RAF and Yuri Gagarin's flight into space complete the picture.

As a "chronicle of superlatives"
the series is very aptly described - exciting and entertaining, varied and humorous, lovingly designed, the viewer who is interested in the most exciting city in the world gets a historical overview of Berlin's most eventful years.
