Everything Jamaica!
Definitely worth a trip.
Everyone knows it as the home of reggae. But the Caribbean island has many facets. They all have one thing in common: they are all worth a trip.
When you think of Jamaica, you think of Bob Marley, white palm beaches,
where people lie in hammocks and listen to relaxed reggae. In fact, the music style that developed in the 1960s in the capital Kingston from its predecessors mento, ska and rocksteady is omnipresent on the island. So it's no wonder that the whole of Jamaica rejoiced in November 2018 when the UNESCO committee announced that reggae was to be added to the list of Intangible World Heritage of Humanity. However, the third-largest Caribbean island was already on UNESCO's World Heritage List before that - for example with the Blue & John Crow Mountains National Park. It comprises mountain ranges in the east that are over 2,000 meters high and partly covered in dense tropical forest. Around 78,000 hectares of this natural area are protected as a national park. The region is home to all of Jamaica's endemic bird species as well as many other rare animals and plants. In addition, the Blue & John Crow Mountains have unique cultural characteristics due to the adjacent and very traditional Maroon communities. This makes them the first World Heritage Site in the Caribbean to be designated as both a natural and cultural heritage site.
However, Jamaica has much more to offer.
Gourmets appreciate the island for its culinary highlights, which make their stay a feast for the palate. A variety of exciting gourmet temples - such as the Bush Bar Restaurant in Port Antonio, the "Hollywood of the Caribbean" - an abundance of food festivals and tasty street food ensure unique culinary experiences. To balance things out, there are numerous opportunities to burn off calories with sporting activities on the beaches and inland: Whether on adventurous hikes to spectacular waterfalls, horseback riding along picturesque mountain slopes or on a bike tour through the lush and fertile landscape - here, the urge to exercise and a love of nature can be perfectly combined. A river safari, where you can watch crocodiles, and exploring historic towns are also worthwhile excursions. A must-visit for golf lovers is the oldest golf course in the western hemisphere: the Manchester Club is located around 600 meters above sea level on the cool hills in the center of the island and offers 18 holes. And the Tryall Golf Club in Montego Bay also delights fans: it is a breathtaking beauty on several levels and at world-class level. For those who prefer to unwind, Jamaica's many wellness facilities are the place to be. First-class spas, exotic treatments and dreamy relaxation zones are a dime a dozen. Whether it's a soothing massage under palm trees, relaxing in the jacuzzi on the private terrace of your own hotel suite or yoga on the beach - the island is a paradise for relaxation enthusiasts.
