Ski vacation in Austria: where winter fairy tales come true
CC has had a look around!
Even if fans of the slopes still have to be patient until the start of the season, preparations are already in full swing in Austria's ski resorts! Where will "Schifoan" really be "the most fun you can imagine" in the coming season? We have already taken a look around for you.
High up in Obertauern
Snow-sure skiing at an altitude of 1,630 to 2,313 meters is probably the best way to sum up the 100 km of pistes in the Obertauern ski area in just a few words and figures. From the end of November to the beginning of May - and therefore much longer than
than in almost all other regions of the country - the season lasts here. The hotel offer is also record-breaking - or should we say "fabulous"?
The best example: the 5* Hotel Cinderella with its rooms and suites measuring up to 82 m2, which are named after sparkling gemstones for a reason. The 2,000 m2 spa with indoor/outdoor pool, panoramic sauna and adults-only and family areas is also a real gem. And the culinary offerings are also sure to impress with a late riser breakfast, afternoon snack, 5-course evening menu in the main restaurant and fine dining option in the "Lumi".
The Valamar Obertauern Hotel is recommended as a lifestyle-casual alternative. Also located in the immediate vicinity of the lifts, you can stay in rooms and suites with a modern Alpine look. The hotel restaurant "Maremonti" offers a pinch of Mediterranean cuisine from the Valamar Group's Croatian homeland. Those who prefer something more traditional can enjoy a convivial evening in the hotel's own "Fondue Stüberl" instead.
And then there's the Nature SPA Resort Lürzerhof in Untertauern, which has introduced many new features this summer. What it lacks in altitude - here you "only" live and ski at 1,010 meters above sea level - the traditional hotel makes up for with its 4,000 m2 spa and wonderfully cosy accommodation, all with breathtaking views. The hotel's other premium services include 6-course menus in the evening and an in-house schnapps distillery. Good to know: both Unter- and Obertauern will be increasingly focusing on summer guests in the future!

Song of praise for Leogang
270 kilometers of slopes, 70 lifts, 60 ski huts: The Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn is the second largest ski area in Austria. Surrounded by the mountain giants of the Steinernes Meer, Leogang, situated in a sunlit valley, presents itself as the sporting center of the region. Those who spend their winter vacation here not only get to enjoy "ski-in - ski-out", but can also count themselves lucky to be able to stay in some of the best hotels in Salzburger Land.
One such hotel is the 5* Krallerhof, which made a name for itself in mid-2023 with the opening of one of the most spectacular spa facilities in the entire Alpine region and attracts an international, design-savvy clientele.
The Senhoog Luxury Homes also offer the service of an exclusive 5* hotel. Whether "Gipfelkreuzliebe" or "Bergwärtsgeist", the two ultra-luxury chalets also offer maximum privacy as well as private wellness areas with pool and sauna. Still not happy? The rest can be taken care of by the Senhoog wish fulfillers, who act as both butler and concierge.
Nomen est omen applies at Puradies, a traditional 4*S hotel with an adjoining chalet village on a car-free, 30-hectare sunny plateau above the village. Not only is the view from the rooms and suites designed with local woods heavenly, but also the unique Heaven Spa with adults-only sauna house, large water world and innovative range of treatments. And because paradise is all about holistic enjoyment, the culinary offerings are also just right, focusing on local delicacies with ingredients from the hotel's own organic farm.
A few hundred meters further on, the 4*S Riederalm even has a star chef, Andreas Herbst, at the "dahoam" restaurant. The name says it all, as do all other areas of the hotel, including a 2,000 m2 wellness area
with thermal pool and panoramic sauna, are inspired by the nature and culture of Salzburg's Pinzgau region.
