"Lighthouse among tourism managers"
Gerhard Gucher honored for his life's work in tourism
Last week, Burgenland Tourism presented its strategy for 2030 under the motto "Burgenland meets the future" to 300 invited guests at a gala night at Weingut Scheiblhofer. Didi Tunkel, Managing Director of Burgenland Tourism, and Deputy Governor Astrid Eisenkopf outlined exciting visions for the future of Burgenland.
A special highlight of the evening was the award for Gerhard Gucher, the former tourism director of Burgenland and director of VAMED Vitality World. For his "life's work in tourism", Deputy Governor Eisenkopf presented Gucher with an oversized giant foam roller instead of a trophy. The reason for this unusual trophy? An extremely sympathetic hopperla had happened earlier - and the almost one and a half meter tall award made of Kerami (a custom-made product from Stoob) had been broken on the way to the stage! After a brief smile, Gucher was nevertheless genuinely delighted with the award.
Gucher's many years of commitment to Burgenland were characterized by his unusual marketing campaigns from 1998 to 2010. Among the highlights were the first scratch-off poster, the drive of a Burgenland-branded car with a stork's nest on the roof and the development of the tourist brand "Burgenland - the sunny side of Austria".
In a video message, actor Harald Krassnitzer praised Gucher's achievements and called him a "beacon among tourism managers" in his laudatory speech. Gucher himself was surprised but also deeply moved by the award and emphasized that he was proud to have been part of the development of tourism in Burgenland over the last two decades.
The gala night, which took place in the "Hall of Legends", was a great success and promises a promising future for Burgenland tourism.
