With the Coquillade Provence Resort & Spa in the south of France, the late Swiss entrepreneur Andy Rihs fulfilled a lifelong dream. While on vacation, he discovered a dilapidated hamlet and envisioned transforming it into a five-star luxury hotel over the course of many years. The resort celebrated its grand opening in 2008. Architecturally, the Coquillade blends harmoniously into the landscape. Today, it is run by his two sons, Tobias and Oliver—who, incidentally, are the great-grandchildren of writer Hermann Hesse. To this day, they honor his memory with photographs, books, and his writing chair in the spacious foyer. 63 exquisite rooms and suites (five pool suites are set to follow by 2023), as well as a six-bedroom villa, an award-winning spa, three sensational restaurants and two bars, its own vineyard, and a cycling center with a wide selection of Swiss BMC bikes, invite guests to celebrate the southern French way of life.
